The best friend and I are big fans of the basic Etienne Calsac BdB and I am looking for similar price point champagnes that drink just as well if not better. Trying to stockpile over the next 5 months for our annual family beach trip.
I havent had the Champage you mentioned, but my favorite Champage in this price range is Egly-Ouriet Les Premices, which I think punches way above its price point.
Some others I really like in this price range are: Larmandier-bernier Longitude, Pierre Moncuit BdB, and Roger Coulon LâHommee.
And for just casual sipping I have to recommend (again) the Cavas from Pere Mata. Many are $20 or less, and they drink way above that price point. Most are brut nature, so very dry.
I havenât tasted widely for comparison, but I am a fan of the Bonville BdB Grand Cru that K&L direct imports, at not much over $50 (though it looks like they are currently OOS).
Agreed. You can sometimes find Eglyâs Les Vignes de Vrigny around $75, too. Outside of champagne, Tissotâs cremantâs from Jura are pretty nice IMO.
And please hit me up with examples that arenât too âapple forwardâ - my wife digs bubbles but not ones that show much âapple juiceâ character. Seriously
I too like this recommendation, and in the right transaction, the Laherte Freres Crayeres could be had for close to 75 (not likely, but possible). This is done in wood, has some dosage and is both fleshy and bright. Aside from that one, their BdB Nature is easily doable around $50-60. LF also makes a cuvee called Nature de Craie, which is pure chard, no dose and no so2. It can be had for $75, and is very good.
Iâd also suggest Larmandier-Bernier Latitude, although that may have more wood imprint than Calsac (should we assue you are talking about Rocheforts?).
FWIW, Elliot, the Laherte Freres Ultradiition has PN and PM in it, so itâs not a BdB.
If you like Pinot based champagne, this is a singular wine ⊠powerful, zesty and ever morphing in glass. Spherical rather than linear. No dosage and no sulfur but not screechy.
