ITT: Post $75 and under Champagne that is worth stockpiling throughout the year

The best friend and I are big fans of the basic Etienne Calsac BdB and I am looking for similar price point champagnes that drink just as well if not better. Trying to stockpile over the next 5 months for our annual family beach trip.

Great Cremant recs are welcomed as well!

I havent had the Champage you mentioned, but my favorite Champage in this price range is Egly-Ouriet Les Premices, which I think punches way above its price point.

Some others I really like in this price range are: Larmandier-bernier Longitude, Pierre Moncuit BdB, and Roger Coulon L’Hommee.

Big fan of the bereche as well. Seems to be pretty hard to come by in Atlanta though.

I don’t know the Calsac either, but I routinely stockpile the basic Brut bottlings from Aubry, Gaston-Chiquet, as well as Lallement. Then there’s Hebrart, with a bunch of wines coming in under $75 that are all outstanding. Vilmart Grand Cellier can still be had for less than $75. Don’t know if you enjoy Meunier-dominated Champagnes, but MoussĂ© is another excellent value.

And for just casual sipping I have to recommend (again) the Cavas from Pere Mata. Many are $20 or less, and they drink way above that price point. Most are brut nature, so very dry.

Big fan of the Aubry and Chiquet, especially when I find them under $40.

@Shay_A I have no trouble finding someone to ship the Bereche, but man the price has really gone up

I haven’t tasted widely for comparison, but I am a fan of the Bonville BdB Grand Cru that K&L direct imports, at not much over $50 (though it looks like they are currently OOS).

Laherte BdB Brut Nature. Ultradition too, but the BdB is esp great at <50.

Haven’t had the Calsac either but I really like Pierre Peters CuvĂ©e de Reserve Brut BdB

Agreed. You can sometimes find Egly’s Les Vignes de Vrigny around $75, too. Outside of champagne, Tissot’s cremant’s from Jura are pretty nice IMO.

And please hit me up with examples that aren’t too ‘apple forward’ - my wife digs bubbles but not ones that show much ‘apple juice’ character. Seriously

Cheers

Three different taste profiles, all delicious:
-Louis Roederer Collection 244
-Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve NV
-2017 Roederer Estate L’Ermitage Brut (Calfornia)

I too like this recommendation, and in the right transaction, the Laherte Freres Crayeres could be had for close to 75 (not likely, but possible). This is done in wood, has some dosage and is both fleshy and bright. Aside from that one, their BdB Nature is easily doable around $50-60. LF also makes a cuvee called Nature de Craie, which is pure chard, no dose and no so2. It can be had for $75, and is very good.

I’d also suggest Larmandier-Bernier Latitude, although that may have more wood imprint than Calsac (should we assue you are talking about Rocheforts?).

FWIW, Elliot, the Laherte Freres Ultradiition has PN and PM in it, so it’s not a BdB.

That would be a great find and it would be my #1 recommendation!

Diebolt-Vallois CuvĂ©e Prestige. Envoyer just offered some more today for $50. Beautiful and elegant classic Cramant BdB, and ages extremely well. I don’t know a better $50 champagne in that style.

Agrapart Terriors pushes the $70-75 range but it well worth it.

Pushing price limit, but can be done:

Marie Courtin Concordance

If you like Pinot based champagne, this is a singular wine
powerful, zesty and ever morphing in glass. Spherical rather than linear. No dosage and no sulfur but not screechy.
