As a curiosity, why not just roll your own? Pork belly is easy to get nowadays and you can customize the herbs or even sub a boneless loin with pancetta inside if you don’t want the crispy fat cap.
Okay Sarah, I have a bone to pick with you! You didn’t warn me that if I ordered from Zahav that I would be ruined for eating any other hummus for the rest of my life. Everything was great but that hummus…
So more seriously, thank you for the recommendation. Certainly the best thing I’ve ordered from Goldbelly to date.
My only observation is that IMO the listed cooking time for the lamb could be reduced.
Oh yes, well. There is that about the hummus. It’s very good and the bread is great when it’s fresh out of the oven (I can’t speak to delivery). I have often sat at the bar alone for a couple of cocktails, the hummus and the little salads. The lamb is amazing - very glad it traveled well and make you happy!
We had the Zahav last night and it was excellent. Enough food for 6, easily. I had two minor quibbles: (1) I would have liked more smoke on the lamb, though I realize it’s personal preference (it was super tender though) and (2) the olive oil basboosa wasn’t in my package.
Regarding the hummus, I have the cookbook and the hummus is super easy to make and even easier if you used tinned chickpeas. If you like I can send you the recipe.
Zahav tonight, just the Hummus and Salatim, not the lamb. So good. Need to try to replicate that hummus. We have the cookbook but usually texture is slightly off.
Looking upthread I didn’t realize the chatter about Zahav. My family was spoiled with the take away they were doing during COVID. They had pre-made dinners available for pick-up at the restaurant. I could swing by and get us Friday night dinner on the way home from work and we’d have enough for lunch on Saturday too. With two young kids, this solved the going-to-the-restuarant problem with the added bonus of picking my own wine. The best of all worlds.
That said, I did host my team’s Holiday 2019 party at the restaurant and the service/food was impeccable. They had magnums of 1985 Rolet Poulsard Arbois which was a hoot watching a bunch of non-wine geeks try.
