Goldbelly experiences

Hahah me too, my wife made fun of me for a $20 coupon finally getting me to do it, arriving Thursday. I have an older Gonon Olivieres on deck already for the starters, now to decide on a red.

Alan and Stan, it’s expensive of course but the food is wonderful, hope you enjoy!

There is a boat load of awesome bread and decent dessert too.

Has anybody tried Difara’s lately? 25% off 2 - 12 inch pizzas at $75 right now. I’ve read Mediocre reviews before and have never ordered any pizza yet. I’ll probably never make it there, so the temptation is large…I could live with say an 80% experience but I’m dubious to even that thought.

had it tonight. I’m so full I can barely type, let alone move. It says enough for 4-6. Had to be enough food for 8-10. Excellent distinctive flavors, easy to follow instructions, just a superb meal. Leftovers galore.

We had seven people eating. Although there was enough of everything for 8-10, the sides were so good we just about finished those up. Flavorful small bowls that reminded me of Korean banchan (one even looked like pink-purple kimchi ). But the lamb shoulder was so large I don’t think we ate much more than half, so I turned the rest into a fairly large pot of stew the next day and invited my sister over. Two very good meals from that.

You guys don’t eat much! I had this sent to friends we were visiting in Florida and 4 of us took down all of the sides, most of the lamb, and about half the bread one day over Memorial Day weekend. Of course, we are big eaters (one VERY big eater) and we started at lunch, then picked at it until midnight or so. People eat different amounts, of course, but I would not count on that feeding 8-10 adults. I think 6 is about right.

In my opinion, the sides need to be larger, and 12 pitas is way too many.

And I’ll take two olive oil cakes please . That was the only thing I could reasonably complain about needing more of.

Used up my AmEx coupons before the end of the month, and reporting on the results. Zahav Hummus and Salatin spread was excellent, worth the price.

Russ and Daughters was disappointing - ordered the bagels to compare with the local options, and they were not good. Small and hard, my wife said they looked like the frozen Lender’s bagels. That might be a bit harsh, but certainly not worth ordering. Also got the rye bread - good, but not transcendental - and the hamentashen - also good, but not great. Best part of the order was the chopped liver, excellent and tasty.

Glad we tried but only Zahav would be a re-order.

I got a 6 pack of Nancy Silverton’s Nancy’s Fancy gelato. I figure if she was going to put her name on the label, it wasn’t going to be junk. Far from it. Really, really excellent. Great texture and intense flavor.

Last time I was in Philly (4-5 years ago), I went to Zahav with a couple of friends, one who is a native. They had been many times. They said the look on my face was priceless after taking my first bite of hummus. A game changer, for sure.

Did the 5-for-3 Genos. Meh.

I ordered some Panbury’s hand pies, lured in by the stellar reviews.

So far I’ve tried the Veggie Thai Curry and the Steak and Stout. The filling on the first was delicious, the filling on the second was okay.

The real disappointment was the crust. Following the directions the sides of the pie were verging on burnt while the bottom of the pie was verging on raw. in the middle the crust was good but nothing spectacular.

I’ll see if maybe covering the sides with foil on the next go helps.

Think upthread someone mentioned not to order the bagels. Smoked fish. Dried fruit. Tofu cream cheese. And yes, chopped liver.

Bread is guaranteed a day old. Sorry if I didn’t say it it one of my posts. Whose day old bagels are as good as one of the better places fresh ones.

That was me. If only he had listened to me… pileon

Funny, my wife says the same thing.

Almost every day.

my wife also starts every conversation with, “why aren’t you listening to me?”

I switched to brushing with olive oil instead of an egg wash and I covered the edges with foil which resulted in a much improved experience.

So far Thai Vegetable and Chicken & Mushrooms are the best. Then Country Chicken, then Steak and Stout, with Pepper Steak trailing in the far distance.

I may order again while being more selective on which fillings I buy.

For local and/or ethnic food?

Gold belly isn’t a steak house. Of course they do sell some outrageously priced steak but I’m pretty sure NO one from here is about to give you a review on those offers.

My favorite to date was Zahav but I’m using the 20% offer to try Hattie B’s.
