FedEx Is Coming Apart at the Seams

Not much.

On the one hand, FedEx delivered my packages rather than saying I wasn’t home even though I was like they often do on Fridays. That said, they left all the boxes by my mailbox in the rain. Luckily I saw them leave so got them before they got wet. I guess they were too heavy and they didn’t want to carry them all the way to my house, never mind signature required.

As OP, I’m baaack!
Package with oldies sent from East Coast last week was to be delivered yesterday as per multiple FedEx emails. Today, they do not know where the package is located. It may not even be in CA because “it is in a rail car”, Really?

I just got the customer failed to sign message while I was in my front yard doing yard work. I had been home all day, checked my cameras and no one had come to the door all day. Some rain is coming in so maybe driver just bailed on deliveries?

I have similar story. I had a dN order to deliver on Monday. I knew I wouldn’t be home so had it redirected to a local Walgreens. I received an email that it was delivered to Walgreens as expected on Monday. Today (Tuesday) I went to pick it up and Walgreens can’t find it. FedEx says it was delivered Monday at 11:57am. Walgreens checked their video archive and found no delivery at that time. Also, they say they scan all packages into their inventory and there is no no record of that FedEx shipping number. Also, their records show that no one signed for receipt of the package. So FedEx says they delivered the package and Walgreens says they never recieved it. Now what?

Happened to me a few years back. You can open a claim or whatever with FedEx, but it’s not going to go anywhere. Your only recompense is to talk to the winery and hope theyre nice enough to send you another case.

I went through that once. FedEx was not very helpful but I went back to Walgreens a couple of days later and the package was in their pickup area then.

My guess is One of two things happened

  1. The FedEx driver fake delivered it to Walgreens and then delivered it the next day or so. ( maybe a technique they use sometimes when they are behind and want to skip a stop, then they mingle it in the next delivery)
  2. Walgreens had it on premises but couldn’t find it. Could have been in their receiving area or back room and then brought up to pickup counter a day or two later
The time FedEx logged the delivery may not have been the real time so maybe that’s why they don’t see it on camera.
Good luck. Hope it shows. If not, shipper likely has to open a claim with FedEx for a lost package. Not sure how Walgreens and FedEx fight it out after that

I have had nothing but problems when diverting packages to Walgreens, though I did receive the packages in the end. The most egregious example was when Walgreens refused delivery because they “didn’t have room”. I saw the area they had devoted to packages and it could hold two boxes at most, and there’s some question as to whether my box would even fit.

Even though it’s much less convenient, when I divert a FedEx package I always divert it to a FedEx office center. I have never had a problem there. At least FedEx will divert packages without an extra charge, UPS won’t.

Good point Mark. Delivery to FedEx Office rather than Walgreens can be your man. I’ve had a very good track record with Walgreens though. But I can see how once there is a problem there is finger pointing that leads to no resolution. With FedEx office, it never leaves FedEx’s chain of custody so the lost item is still fully on them

I wonder what we are agreeing to when we authorize delivery to Walgreens? Are we in essence taking a FedEx off the hook once they drop at Walgreens?

I have used Walgreens with great success for the last couple of years, but have suddenly hit snags with two different local Walgreens in the last month or so. The issues that have arisen are mostly of the type of Walgreens saying that a package is not there that is, and claiming that Fed Ex is the one in error. However with one package last month it became clear that my local Walgreens were in error: I came to pick up one package and found out that they were just about to send back another package of mine that I had asked about over and over again the week before (they had claimed it wasn’t there). They told me I was “lucky” that I finally (!) came to pick it up because they had already marked it return to sender (!!).

The final issue that made me decide to aways reroute to a Fed Ex office and not Walgreens is when a package I had been closely watching travel across the US suddenly was not scanning anywhere. I inquired about it anyways at Walgreens (where it should have been), and they were emphatic that they did not have it. I finally got a notification that it was there, rushed over to Walgreens as soon as I could, and they once again couldn’t “find” it (I had the pick up QR code and all). I spent half an hour there trying to have them ensure that it wasn’t there. Imagine my reaction when i was notificed by Fed Ex a number of hours later that Walgreens said I never picked it up and it was being returned to sender (and Fed Ex said there was nothing I could do about it, even though it hadn’t traveled too far from me by the time they notified me it was being returned).

In my case, Walgreens said it was Fed Ex’s fault, and Fed Ex said it was Walgreens’ fault, but it was clearly Walgreens’ fault. I do know i got a lot of attitude over the last few months from one woman at one of the Walgreens saying they didn’t have space for larger alcohol shipments (and yes, I tried to kill her with kindness to no avail). FYI: the two packages they marked for return were a 4-pack and a 6-pack.

So long story, but I am sadly not entrusting any more packages to Walgreens.

For your wine shipments, how often do you actually sign for the package? I’ve never had an ID scanned or checked and have only actually signed for a package only a handful of times. It makes the adult signature requirement feel like a waste of money as a shipper when in my experience a signature is collected only half the time.

I have to sign every time (heck, they made me sign for a cat food delivery yesterday - not sure what was up with that!). The only time they seemed to dispense with signatures was in 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic.

I’m worried what exactly you feed your cat with…

Maybe Charlie is kitty’s supplier and I don’t mean tuna.

I had this happen with UPS. The driver claimed I was not home, although I waited all day (they changed the drop-off time during the day.) Checked my security cameras and confirmed the driver never came, probably just wanted to go home. I redirected the package to the main processing center and told the woman when getting the box. She actually looked up the driver, wrote down the name, and told me she would let his supervisor know. Of course, now I am nervous that next time he will shake and drop my box of wine out of spite.

I wrote in the delivery notes yesterday: “Actually come to house. Camera shows no delivery.” Today the guy dropped the package off and ran off. No doorbell ring, no ID check…but I got my wine at least.

With UPS, the drivers in my area are always the same so you have some relationship over time. They’ll drop off my wine without a signature or I can even leave a note to drop it at my neighbors house if I’m out of town. FedEx seems to have a new driver every time I see them.

Didn’t want to start a new thread, but I received some interesting news from UPS today….

I got a call from someone at UPS telling me that I can no longer redirect UPS packages to my local UPS access point store because some of the UPS employees are under 21 and cannot legally receive packages marked as alcohol. I told this person that I have redirected dozens of boxes of wine to that store over the past few years without any issue and they told me that this is a new UPS policy going forward.

Anybody else run into this? This would make using UPS a huge pain for me since I’m rarely home when they normally deliver.

But their 18-20 year old employees that work in their warehouses, docks and yard can push the wine boxes right along no problem? I don’t buy that one. They just don’t want to dick with re-directing the shipment is my guess.

Some states are working on lowering the age for working with alcohol, maybe places you don’t want to move to.

Had this same thing happen to me. Must of just happened because I used it extensively the last several months. I missed the phone call from UPS, and now have to try call the national UPS number to tell them to hang on to it, or to have it shipped to my house and they’ve been giving me the run around. I’m never home, and when I am it’s like being on house arrest waiting for the delivery to sign for. Such a bummer. Guess I’ll use FedEx whenever I can now.
