FedEx Is Coming Apart at the Seams

I get this on a regular basis. Walgreens was not closed! My best guess is that the driver “lost” it on the truck or his route was running late and just returned to the local hub; and that this is an acceptable work practice within their culture.

Exactly, it’s just only newbie drivers that actually follow the rules.

That’s happened to me in the past. The driver basically finds the package X stops down the road past your stop. So he flags it as undeliverable and just bring it the next day because he doesn’t want to turn around or he’s running late or all of the above or more excuses.

Last time this happened to me I managed to track down his supervisor in the local depot and made him call the driver while he was still out on the route to confirm. I knew exactly what had happened. An integral part of my business is route accounting and handhelds for delivery personnel. I’ve ridden more routes in my life than I can remember. I know what happens on those routes.

100% not true. I deal with several veteran drivers who follow the rules.

I’m happy to play by the rules, as direct shipment of wine is a privilege, not a right.

Looks like I’m going to have to give FedEx a preemptive pass on the “business closed/not available” excuse. I have a package out for delivery today, to the office.

Yesterday we had a sprinkler malfunction and it took out the elevators. They remain out today. Our mailroom is on the 11th floor and we have ordered a WFH day today. So, for once, it will be accurate. We’ll see what they actually do…

It seems I’m not the only one that’s had recent issues with FedEx. One of my BD deliveries was supposed to be delivered Friday, but was not because “No Adult Signature” even though my husband was home when delivery was supposedly attempted. Fedex likes to leave packages at the very end of our driveway, which is about a football field and a half from the house, so my guess is the driver was just feeling lazy. I then paid for a delivery window for Saturday, which it was not delivered in and came at a different time on Sunday. I don’t know what the solution is, I’ve tried having packages routed to a local Walgreens for pickup and have had deliveries be an issue there too. Half the time FedEx actually gets a signature on wine, the other half they leave it at the end of the driveway for anyone driving by to potentially pick up. I’m at the point that I’m ready to not purchase from companies that use FedEx as their carrier.

I’m guessing that there are no FedEx office locations near you? They are probably the safest bet of all the options to route to

I usually reroute to Walgreens, 9 out of 10 times without incident. A couple times they couldn’t find the package although FedEx said it was dropped at Walgreens. I came back the next day and it was there. Might have been on the loading dock at Walgreens and not put in the pickup area.

It would be very FedEx like to just leave it outside the buildings front door now

They actually did leave it, when I expected the “business closed” thing, but thankfully they left it with the security guards in the lobby. Normally, they won’t accept packages, but building mgmt must have told him to do so while the elevators were out.

Glad to hear you had a good FedEx experience this time around. They seem to have been improving recently, we have not encountered many problems in at least the last 4-6 months.

A year ago it seemed like we would have some kind of issue every week with at least one shipment we sent!

My most recent delivery windows have been cut down from something like “expected by 8 PM” to “expected between 9 AM and 1 PM.” Granted, both deliveries with that promise were an hour or so after 1 PM, but it is a refreshing change from the deliveries that often came between 7 and 9 PM after being on the truck since 6 AM or earlier. One driver only asked my last name, and the other had me sign and scan my license, but I was able to see both arrive and didn’t give them a chance to drop and go if that’s still an option.

Has anyone had issues trying to change to hold for pick up and then receiving an error message that your address can’t be found? I was always able to make those changes with no issue and have them held at the local office/print center. Now it shows me a satellite map with a note nothing can be located. I do pay the $20 now at UPS for this so maybe I missed FedEx charging for this now as well. Curious if it’s others too or just me.

That’s correct. Not a close FedEx location. May just have to start routing to Walgreens, which isn’t able to have pickups on weekends which is limiting, but better than spending a day waiting for a delivery that never shows up.

I use the paid redirect at UPS. I also use the redirect at FedEx. It’s free, but you need to sign up for an account. I send both to their own pack and ship stores. Everybody knows me by name.

Can’t believe UPS actually came through today. I was sure they were going to use the not at home excuse on my Masters ticket for tomorrow, but they showed up promptly… at 545pm.

That’s odd. I pick up at Walgreens on the weekend all the time.

Another drive by attempted delivery here today! It’s like clockwork with FedEx.

Yeah i agree it’s odd. I think they have just decided to not staff it on weekends.

Ugh! So frustrating!

I had my husband stay home last Saturday bc we were expecting a delivery and I had to be out. When I got home, the package was on the outdoor stairs. He had no idea it had been dropped off. Isn’t the driver suppose to scan an ID?
