Do we have any guesses on what they’ll be doing for Black Friday?
Even under cam, it was variable
2020 it was lot 50 for $180 delivered. That was actually my first purchase.
21 I didn’t buy anything. I think it was something like 25% off the bottle shop.
22 I went all in on some crazy good deals on Napa wine from the bottle shop. I got a ton of Lot 17 for $13 a bottle, and lot 24 and 25 for $15 a bottle (between that Thanksgiving and March of 23 was part of that moving sale that in hindsight was likely new ownership sale. That represents some of the more historic discounts we have gotten)
23 I think it was just a bottle shop discount, but not impressive… Most people, including myself, were loading up on the $99 case sales Of the Australian wines
My lot 518 Napa Malbec got delivered yesterday. Has anyone received and tried one yet?
I also just received my order for Lot 508 Russian River Valley 2023 Carignan with the following note from Shahida (dN Customer Service): Lot 508 was bottled on 10/20 [I posted this on Denegociants]. “I’d recommend giving this a try at around 8 months (July 2025), then depending on your preferences, I’d give it another try again 6+ months later (Jan 2026). You’ll see it coming into it’s own and can continue to age this for 3-5 years.”
Maybe dN customer service could give us tasting time suggestions for Lot 518 Napa Valley 2023 Malbec also??
I just got mine as well and think that this will need to rest up a bit.
If it’s anything like the first malbec - #18 I believe - I opened them WAY too soon, didn’t care for them and then gave a number of them away. Clearly I was not aware of needing to hold these wines.
BUT, if you pop one open, please let us know what you think!
UPDATE for #518 - Napa Malbec - A friend just came to pick up 3 btls of this and unfortunately dropped one on the front sidewalk. Naturally the bottle burst but the aroma that came from the wine was fantastic ! It reminded me of #142 and other rich malbecs from other areas. Color was deep dark purple, definitely a finger & teeth staining color.
I may have to get another case before the T1 pricing ends.
Opened a bottle of lot 512 today – attempting to decide if we should hold for a while or open a tranche of them on Thanksgiving as we are somewhat overstocked on reds and the results are a bit up in the air. Upon pop and pour, the wine was very shy and really did not taste like much of anything. One could call it charitably “Burgundian” in the sense that it is nothing like RRV California pinot noir with big black fruit. Not like last year’s 411 which was instantly quite aromatic. We decanted and after about 90 minutes, poured into a big glass, it definitely developed a nice floral quality to it and tasted much more like “something.” Fruit on the side of cranberries with some pleasurable pinot noir funk, a hint of tobacco and a bit of spice. Good acidity and tannic backbone, and would probably work well with food. All around though I felt like I was reaching to find the flavors and everything was very subtle. I’m a bit concerned with the general lack of concentration, so I can’t decide how much benefit more time will give it. Maybe it will blossom into something awesome, or maybe there isn’t enough there to begin with. Hard to say. Anyone have advice and experience for recently bottled pinot noirs like this?
Last Tranche I call until 5:00 pm PT today (11/22/2024) for Lots 514 Spring Mt District 2022 Cab Franc [$259]; 518 Napa Valley 2023 Malbec [$179]; 519 Paso Robles 2023 Tannat [$179].
yes, if you didn’t love it on the first try, it needs time. If you’re overstocked anyway, open something else. I felt like an idiot using my cellar to defend my dN purchases, but I am so glad I did, the 2018s and 19s are just so much better now.
Simon,
Lot 512 bottled early Sept '24. Most these wines need at least 6 months to overcome bottle shock. Thanks for the good review on Lot 411- I’m sitting on my case and as Jonah mentioned, I’m also busy drinking my 2018’s and 2019’s de Negoce bottles. Plus some excellent 2017’s too.
Enjoyed a Lot 15 2018 Napa Merlot last evening. It has 4.5 years bottle time.
Cheers, Tim
Or . . . You may just not love it . . .
Of course that’s true, what I was trying to account for were the occasional wines that are amazingly delicious fruit bombs for a brief moment before shutting down into a “dumb” period. I have never understood how that works or with which wines, but my general rule of not liking most reds young has that exception.
Today, All Futures (that didn’t sell out) are going to the BS.
Last 2 futures I remember selling out were # 497 & # 500? Correct?
Black Friday is one week away……
??
I think they are cleaning up the site for their BF sale, remove/eliminate any confusion on what gets a discount. Of course if they release 3 new futures early next week my 30 years of retail experience don’t mean squat!
Cellartracker naming is getting unhinged, I added some recent arrivals and found FOUR?! different Lot numbering conventions. I’ll need a glass of wine if these shenanigans keep up.
OG N.XXX has to be the standard. I don’t know what the OG does, but the N.number is great for search.
I’m feeling like today is going to be a big day. No offers last week, slightly revamped website. I’m thinking Black Friday begins TODAY! Maybe just with the offer of 515 or 516, but it’s gotta be something!
Or maybe Friday.
PS - remember last year that they started early access to the sale on Wednesday night.
Just looked at the bottle shop for the first time in a year or so, and so many of the wines sound identical. Are there any that people have been particularly excited by?
Wines that will be 30% off or more.
