De Negoce offer (Part 2)

https://shop.foppiano.com/SHOP.AMS?LEVEL=BOT&PART=FRCG2117&DESC=2021%20Grant%20Station%20Carignane

Might be doubtful that it is Foppiano as their website says average total Craignan production is 188 cases. I know that was probably higher in a year like 2023, but would they have 200 extra cases? That is unless CMB Wines has decided to stop producing Carignan and bulked it all out.

Hertelendy claimed emphatically that it wasn’t their wine for those cabs. Posts from denogicants…

Good call here (Foppiano)…not too many vintners are growing Carignan in this quantity; politics work well, too!

My last de Négoce Carignan wine was N 135 2017 Mendocino 80 to 90-Year-Old-Vine Carignan (Bottled November 2020) which was not well received by most Wine Berserkers. It was a decent weekday cellar defender for us. Four years ago, this was $96 ($8 btl) plus $29 shipping ascribed to be a $30 bottle of wine. WBs’ considered this to be a $19 or less value. Today’s Lot 508 Russian River Valley 2023 Carignan comes in at $199 shipped. Crossing my fingers on my first dN 2023 California red described as a $60 offering.

How long does anyone suspect this wine should be put away before trying after ‘bottle shock’?

Well, we thought that Lot 501 RRV Pinot had a connection to W-S. W-S also makes a Carignan from Saltone Vineyard that retails for around $80 at K&L Wines. Thoughts?

cheers, Tim

We are all familiar with a “Single Vineyard Wine”
Less common is a “Single Mine AU Maple Leaf”
Is “Detour Lake Mine” a Grand Cru of Canada??

from Kitco:
Costco is also offering more unique bullion products. Last week, the store announced a partnership with the Royal Canadian Mint to offer its members the first opportunity to acquire a Gold Maple Leaf Single Mine bullion coin. The gold in the coin comes from Canadian mining giant Agnico Eagle’s Detour Lake mine in Northern Ontario.

Cool! COST & AEM = Lotsa dN’$!
Costco/Kirkland wines are a decent value. Are Kirkland Precious Metals next?

Oh, btw, #501 looks awesome. #508 super extra easy to pass on this……

#508, only 200 cases of Carignan, will it make it to the Bottle Shop??
:wine_glass:

Checked the website for the first time in ages and…did not realize they are playing in this market now.

I confused….so this is a burgundy producer who makes a $750 1er but this is their village wine which to Eleveur is its 1er?

I think it is referencing Leflaive Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 2020 which I have found for around $750ish.

I’m also confused. Is this a shiner? Doesn’t seem like it unless I’m missing something. Looks like Suckling reviewed THIS wine though.

Very interesting indeed. I want this same type of offer, but for stuff like Scarecrow and Sine Qua Non. LFG, what are you waiting for dN?!?!

Oh! I was really confused because when I went to the website I saw a village Eleveur for $42. I was looking a the wrong product.

The way it’s worded, it sounds like they’re saying Les Pucelles generally starts around $750 a bottle, which isn’t exactly borne out by all the $150-250 bottles from about 20 producers you can find on wine-searcher right now. The only one that is that high is Leflaive. Are they saying this is Leflaive? Because I think I’ve seen higher scores on used motor oil.

I can bet a large amount of money it’s not Leflaive. That’s just absurd.
