I’ll go $299/ case, which for me would be a pass. I’m still sitting on 2+ cases of 68.
Didn’t the Pride owner come on here specifically to refute that one of the early releases (68?) that was speculated to be Pride was not? Or am I misremembering who it was
He wasn’t Proud to have bulked out his wine I guess.
I’m sure one of the OGs on this thread can pipe in here - @MatthewT perhaps?
Pretty sure it wasn’t Pride but a different winery.
I have 0 memory of any of this.
I believe it was for the 27, 28, 29 series when the guess was Hertelendy.
Pretty sure it wasn’t Pride - the clues around Pride were strong (and there were like 4-5 releases purported to be them that lined up well). I believe the one where someone came on here was Boeschen, originally thought to be lot 42?
Hmmm Hertelendy also sounds right, one of those two for sure
Lot 68 Sonoma County Mountain 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon was $11.58 per bottle [$139 case plus tax] w/shipping on ‘moving day sale’ / $18 [$216 case plus ship & tax] Tranche 1 pricing / $29 Bottle Shop price each / $80 per bottle reference price.
Every hear of Random Ridge? Their vineyards are right on the line. Furthermore, nothing in what you wrote guarantees it was one vineyard, nor even juice rejected from one bottling. As you somewhat dismissed, it could be a dN concoction.
As an aside….often when they do a “last call” for a type of wine, that means that they are about to offer a new lot of that same style… or that’s what I’ve seemed to notice.
Also 68 was had last night with pizza. Spectacular for the $12 a bottle it was that spring break a few years back. A knotch above the other “ cellar defenders” I have (150/175/211/230/240)
Luke,
Just had 211 last night, it is one of my favorite WA CS’s. Perhaps, my very favorite?
However, I have not tried any of the #91 or #230, yet.
Cheers!
Luke - is the last 240 on your list supposed to be 340 by chance? That’s what I’m having tonight and plan on finishing the case by early '25. To me it’s definitely a weekday wine that i had great hopes for but don’t think it will get any better.
No. Was supposed to be 230. I absolutely hate 340. Think I’m very sensitive to the spicy red hots (“spicy capsicum”) described in offer that makes it impossible to enjoy for me
I opened a bottle of 230 this weekend and man that wine continues to impress and drink great. I’m sad that I’ve already finished a case of the 3 that I bought!
This: Hertelendy.
I went through 3 cases of 68. We loved it. I hope the writeup makes Pride the prime suspect in this new release!
I don’t seem to have a sensitive palate to pick up many of these flavors others taste. To to me, the 340 I had last night was actually a little better than I remember it being up until now. Isn’t there another dN lot that’s also almost universally hated? I’d say that with about 500 releases there were a handful or so of duds but not enough to turn me off entirely from dN. My big concern is whether the new buying team is as good as Cam at predicted which wines will be good based mostly on barrel samples.
Haven’t read it yet, but possible Foppiano.
