You and your lot 16 guess……. ![]()
Alec
Have you read through the thread?
The clairvoyance will become clearer as to the basis of the guesses for each lot.
The actual source will never be disclosed. Information provided varies greatly on each lot. Also a lot of word smithing so that the offers sound as jaw dropping as possible. The sleuths here are pretty good. I’d give the guesses a 50- 70% probability overall. Some are easier to guess, others not enough info is given.
Cam has done a good job of disclosure on how the lot was built as he sometimes adds varieties to what was purchased from the source.
Yes, I’ve read through most of the thread. I guess I’m surprised to see some of the certainty as to the producers guessed in some of these lots. Maybe it will help to give an example. I read through the description of Lot 29 on the website, but I fail to see how one comes to a conclusion that it is from Vine Cliff as David points out in his comprehensive list. Is it primarily based off the technical specs provided?
EDIT I guess I’m wondering how people come to a decision to buy? Are people purchasing because they think they know what it is (which is a guess) or are they buying because the wine sounds good based off Cam’s description?
Fairly new to the world of Cam but my understanding is this is his third venture of doing the same thing?
Why new ventures every so often?
He sells them, presumably for millions!!!
. He has stated on here before that he is an investor, so he builds businesses and then sells them.
Not a lot of Cab Franc producers that meet the specific descriptions of Lot 29. Rudd was one choice, Vine Cliff was another - David pointed out Vine Cliff matches the price a bit better (>$100) but end of the day its not a 100% certainty, and based on our interpretation of the lot’s description.
End of day folks on the board are confident that Cam can produce tasty wines at a very decent price. The guesswork is just added fun.
That (being reputation) makes the most sense. I know for me, I only buy LB’s mystery wine (not sleeper) when I come to a very strong conclusion on the label. And they I am reaffirmed when it shows up on my doorstep so I know what I’m drinking.
If David’s list is going to be taken as the community guess, I would suggest maybe a five star system where you (also guessing) estimate the confidence level of each guess.
Guessing is fine and fun…and I’m sure Cam loves the hype it builds. I think there needs to be a balance though is all.
This thread gets very fan boy/girlish and new people shouldn’t be led down the path that the list is what they are necessarily close to 100% getting.
Before they know it they end up with 500 bottles and nowhere to put them hoping Cam will store it for them too ![]()
Put a five star on the ones you think are 100% and a one star on the couple that there’s no reasonable guess. Maybe an N/A blend on anything over a certain percentage point blend.
That all said, I ll say it again I’ve bought 75% of the new releases and am through a case of 7 (will reorder) and half case of 1 so I (my wife) obviously enjoys the product.
What was is that made you make the decision for a repurchase of Lot 7?
I’m waiting to get my shipping confirmation.
I really didn’t take a note, I tasted the first bottle my wife opened and said “yeah that’s exactly what I expect”.
It’s better than any Cabernet I can get locally for $16 and she enjoyed it with casual friends ect. I’ll reorder to time it up with the other cases so we have it to compare and enjoy later.
It’s good though, sorry I don’t have a real note.
When I get all the cases I open them all up and redistribute randomly then throw them in the passive cellar. Pull up one case at a time with random bottles to keep the rotation fresh.
Hmmm
Based on limited research right now it seems he didn’t make much on the Cameron Hughes sale as it was in bankruptcy. Does seem he made a great deal on de negoce. Although seems he’s now being sued as it seems like cam x may be in violation of that non compete….
Not sure I have an opinion at this moment. Really just trying to understand what I’m looking at… well possibly drinking. lol
I think this should be the end all statement - but folks ‘love a deal’ . . .
Cheers
I believe this is correct, but Cameron Hughes the human being sold Cameron Hughes Wine to Vintage Wine Estate, in what, 2016 or so?
Vintage Wine Estate filed for bankruptcy last year, a company that Cameron has nothing to do with.
That’s what you’re referring to?
As he said…I may not be the keeper of the community guess, but my own guesses are heavily driven by the community. Anyone else is welcome to keep a running tally. I don’t stake a claim on it, just trying to help.
What I saw was he sold the original Cameron Hughes sold originally to VWE cause it was in debt and the majority went to paying that off.
Granted this is from ChatGPT so who knows if that’s right?
Will be interested to see how the lawsuit pans out.
That’s been covered numerous times in the thread. At the end of the bottle, you’ll never know for sure.
Use the Mikko standard and all will be right with the world
I’m sorry my guesses don’t meet your standard. You are more than welcome to add confidence intervals or your own methodology. I’m just trying to be helpful. I don’t think there’s any concern that these brands will be harmed by a guess by a bunch of internet wine nerds.
He started to venture into buying grapes in addition to already produced juice and wanted to become an opportunistic winemaker as well as a bottler/blender. Soon found out, was a pain in the ass that tied up capital. Ended up with too much inventory and too little funding
Truly a berserker!
Cam had lost control of his namesake company due to the funding issues. He went underground for a while as no one really knew what had happened at the time. The facts came out later.
