By 2015, the glut was over and the company was in receivership. (It was later acquired by Vintage Wine Estates.) But Hughes has since founded a mail-order steak company, Holy Grail Steak, and is now launching the Négociant Wine Company, featuring wines ranging from $10 to $15 a bottle that will be available soon.*
Just when I was feeling like I should order some more deNegoce I see this and say hmmm… perhaps I should hold off and see what Cam’s going to be offering up first… exciting!

It’s wine from Cameron, and it’s just prepaying $1k of it. Which we all know (unless we live in denial) we will spend in a year.
Exactly my thought MIkko… I’ve been waiting for the 2023’s to hit and I certainly will trust Cam’s palate and selections over what DN has and is going to be throwing at us.
Ah, I didn’t scroll down previously to see “founder member” status. $1K too steep for me, since I’m more of a window shopper these days, and don’t need $1K of new wine, at least until my existing inventory gets under control. The site does show an image/mock-up of the first wine, Lot No. 01, a 2023 Napa Cab (obviously). Interesting that Cam’s name IS on this label.
It’s really mind boggling. Within a year, Cam will have cashed out, started a new brand using pretty much the same look, feel, go-to-market, etc, and steal back a big chunk of his old customers. Props to his legal team.
Not really all that different from restaurant groups opening up multiple concepts. They don’t really compete with each other as much as they compete with the rest of the industry.
That Lot #1 will be epic by the way. I might burn my entire $1k on it alone. Even without knowing anything about it. It’s a 2023, and it will be the first lot for the new brand. I bet it’ll be comparable to old “even number” releases.
I prob bought 75 different lots and not sure I had a bad cab or cab blend. I know this cause there isn’t any bottles I won’t drink. Only dN I’ve ever bought that won’t ever get drank is the Malbec which was N < 20 but I might just not like Malbec wine.
