I have both bottles and have tried both of them. LdH is a better wine right now (for my tastes), and will only continue to improve. Not sure how much the Paganos will improve over time.
I own both wines as well. The LdH is not ready to drink, IMO. I’m not “arguing” over which is a better wine I’m putting out suggestions for someone looking for wines and mentioned that this wine would be ready to drink. I sometimes use when a wine is ready to drink as a basis for deciding on purchase, as well as professional reviews, CT reviews and my own tasting experience.
Delivered already. Kind of surprising to receive this (2016 St. Innocent PN Justice Vineyard) next day considering all the FedEx issues people are talking about.
Which one of those is supposed to be the one that improves for 20 years? I’d put more chips on the Puntido than the Tondonia. LdH reservas don’t exactly fall off a cliff but I don’t know anyone who puts them away like the gran reservas (yes, yes, we know they could legally qualify). They are wines to drink while you are waiting on the gran reservas.
Anyone calling Puntido a modern-styled wine doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Here is the first line of Luis Guitierez’s review, who knows a thing or two about classical Rioja: “Putting my nose in the glass of the 2007 El Puntido Gran Reserva transported me to the classical Riojas from yesteryear.”
Watch out for emails from WDC. Subject of the email will be “WE MISS YOU! SAVE $50 ON YOUR NEXT ORDER”
In the email is a 1 time use code for $50 off 150 and expires 12/31
I’ve been actually looking for a decent champagne for New Years for someone that has not ventured into champagne very much. Is this what you would most recommend for something in the 75-100 range on WDC?
Not sure what they have in your warehouse, and I’ve not had the LP, but I’d strongly consider the Roederer BdB. They have the '14 for not far off W-S low before coupons and cashback.
Yes, for sure. Great vintage for LP. Blake Brown recommended it in the WTF Champagne RU Drinking thread, and I agree. I only opened one bottle thus far, and it was soon after arrival. It was very good, so if you believe in travel shock, it could be even better than that bottle showed.
