Did you ever open another bottle?
No, some Comtes and Cristal got in the way. I may open one this weekend. Btw, '12 Comtes was delicious, better than the best bottles of '12/ '13 DP I have had.
Yep! It’s legit right now. I need mine to show up so I can start drinking them or I’m going to have to buy more at a higher tariff just to stay hydrated.
I saw your note on CT which made me go pick up a 6-pack that I had sitting at a LWS. This is a must buy for Comtes lovers. I also popped an '08 a couple of days later and it was very similar to the '12, but with just a bit more depth to it.
We just had the '08 as well and it was every bit as ravishing as the first we tried two years ago. If the '12 is in the same vein, I’m glad we upped added some, too.
And just added some '14 Bollinger Grande Annee. March is always tough…
I’m probably going to grab some ‘14 GA, too (birth-year for my second), esp. if I won’t be able to afford DP. Damn you enablers.
Edit: it is done.
I have found Comtes to be very good to great for almost every vintage since '95 (excluding '11). Cristal is the only other producer who I think has an even better track record over those years. Cristal is twice the enjoyment because the rosé is killer too.
Hey, we are not the ones who told you to have a second child, so technically you are your own enabler.
Comtes is my favorite of the big houses for sure. I missed the Cristal boat a bit, in that I didn’t buy it early on in my champagne development, and then it was just enough more expensive to put it out of the case purchase reach for me, and anything less than a case of champagne is sad. Oddly (luckily?), too, Jonathan isn’t a big fan of the rose.
That’s why I don’t buy much grower, I need stuff that I can buy multiples of 6.
Guys named Jonathan and Comtes rosé just don’t mix.
If you and Marlene make it down in April, we’ll open some fun grower, then.
Anything but Comtes rosé.
We should know this weekend regarding our availability.
It’s actually Cristal rosé my Jonathan doesn’t love, though the Comtes isn’t a favorite either. I’ve actually never had a Cristal rosé and would love to change that!
We love Cristal rosé. If we can make it, I will bring a bottle and there will be more for everyone else since Jonathan won’t want any.

Between this and Cristal, I’m going to go broke.

My Pobega of a 14 GA was not super exciting, but after waiting another six months or so I popped another and thought it was actually quite good and improving. I just had a conversation with @Jorge_Henriquez and suggested that Bolly GA was becoming a good buy, and a better call than 11 Comtes or something like 10 DP, and probably gaining market attention given its relatively fair price.
Edit: I should clarify…it’s been a good buy and I believe quality has materially improved over mid 2000s offerings which I thought were too oxidative. More recent vintages have been, in my opinion, considerably better wines and relative bargains compared to the rapidly increasing price of even off-vintage bottles of other grand marques.
I think you’ll be happy with your purchase.
original title of this thread was 13 Dom. Tried today. 08 and 12 wowed me much more. Good not great. Not a buyer at current pricing.

Local store has ‘12 and ‘13 for same price- is there any reason why I’d get the 13? (The ‘08 is also only $50 more)
Nope and all of my local stores unfortunately only have the 2013 available.
Definitely want the 2012 instead or 2008 for that matter.

I had the 2013 last weekend, and have had all three in the last couple of months. The 2012 is definitely better than 2013, and the 2008 is better than both. Now that said, I think the 2013 is much more approachable right now. The 2008 Rosè I had on Vday was still tight.
