Women in wine

Merrill - what’s the kitten’s name?

Heath,

I have no idea what point you are trying to make with that final comment, but I can’t imagine it will be productive.

I keep almost wading into this & then wading back out. At the end of the day, if someone is offended by intended or unintended chauvinism, just apologize and try to be understanding. If it requires more explanation, then ask for it.

I don’t know. Unfortunately I was not in attendance. This was part of a gorgeous photo shoot featuring Mr. Gronkowski (and his feminine side!) in Sports Illustrated.

I agree completely , and my point is that for what I see here on this board I’m not able to identify sexist comments(as I define them) , however ; as I stated there are some I find to be crass.

The last was intended for “And while laws may prohibit certain behaviors in the workplace, that doesn’t mean they don’t happen.” - Illustrating that since laws are enacted to prevent both , neither occur with much frequency.

The risk of typing behind a keyboard , cellphone etc is that what you say can be taken out of context , or misinterpreted. I doubt seriously anyone intends to offend another here.

Not to get too far afield, but if you’re actually asserting that neither sexism in the workplace nor rape occur “with much frequency”, you’re simply out of touch.

Forty+ posts and no mention of Madeline Puckette?

From a tasting note of mine: “Overall, this was a pretty spectacular effort, with outstanding definition, great depth and length, and a lithe beauty to it that was really quite wonderful. It is a 24-year-old Ginger Rogers in wine.” Maybe that’s sexist, but I couldn’t think of a better way to describe something that was powerful, balanced, graceful, and beautiful all at the same time. I think of it as more about the dancing than the femaleness, but at the same time, I can’t think of a male dancer that I would use to convey the same impression. Maybe I just lack creativity.

What about her?

If there is evidence of sexism on this board , then surely you wouldn’t mind pointing it out to me. I will be happy to say I was wrong , and will be ashamed that it is occuring as I know that I wouldn’t do that…that is more keeping to the point

Or just better than Fred: 'Sure he was great, but dont forget that Ginger Rogers did everything he did…backwards and in high heels.’ - See more at: Misquotation: “Backwards and in high heels” The...

Ha! Yes, well we also have laws setting the speed limit. No speeding anymore either, amiright?!

^^^this right here … I admit I’ve done it but with regret. I am more careful because I like the female perspective here

Women on this board have said they have witnessed or experienced sexism here, and your response is “oh yeah? prove it!” ???

I guess that’s why you don’t believe that rape or sexual harassment occur with frequency, because nobody has taken on the burden of proving it to you. And there are laws against drug use too, good thing nobody uses drugs anymore!

Edit: Michael beat me to the same point.

Yes you are! However ; in modern times you surely can’t equate the fine for a speeding ticket with the loss of a 6 figure job(Finance) , or should I say career. Who would be that dumb to risk that , is my point?

Is the form of argument here “because I would not risk that, or because I would not do that, or because I don’t think it would be reasonable to do that,” mean that it is not done? To move beyond the realm of speeding tickets, how about insider trading, or embezzlement, or tax fraud? Each of those, when caught, lead to losing a financially lucrative job. There are laws against such activity. Yet it still happens.

There is, of course, a whole other issue about what activity that creates a hostile work environment in fact is actionable (and of course I am not saying that such things should lead to criminal or civil liability – but that does not mean they don’t exist).

This is a moving line. I was nearly run over by a driver in my hospital parking lot (there was bumper-to-leg contact) and made a joke about female drivers which ended up causing quite a lot of angst.

Let’s not , please it’s drifting away from the point. All I am getting is a bunch of yammering and nothing to identify where this alleged sexism occurred. Wouldn’t you want to know if something you said was interpreted as sexist? Or if you said something that was considered sexist by a woman? I do

Really? Ok thank you for pointing it out Glenn. Seems tame to me but , I’m sure almost getting run over had an effect on you…I almost was hit while running yesterday so I know how you felt…Didn’t see who did it but it scares you nonetheless. Was it here in wine talk or one the other boards? I’m curious because perhaps if inflammatory(or stuff perceived as such is elsewhere , but not here then this is a good place to stay and avoid it.

Dude nobody has to spend hours digging through past posts to find the incidences of sexism. You sound like a child. We’ve seen them. Some of us have commented on them. Good for you for not being sexist. #notallberserkers

This was a real-life example Heath, angst at job.
