WineSpies.com (Wine Spies) Deal Discussion thread

The Paulista 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is now sold out but I emailed Agent Brut to check if there are any cancellations. Most of the time he has been able to find me a bottle of sold out wines. It probably is past it’s peak but still sounds pretty good.

Update: he was able to get me a bottle then it came up for sale on WS again.

Yeah for the price I had picked up a bottle to try. Overall it should be worth a try.

AI says the classified deal is likely Groth Reserve

Groth’s reserve is priced much higher. My money’s on Turnbull.

Its a second pour and says “classified return” so im assuming its turnbull again

yeah AI is far from perfect still. after suggesting turnbull it completely contradicted itself lol

I bought some of the Turnbull Reserve the last time around, but am holding off on shipping here until March….anyone had a chance to try the Turnbull Reserve yet?

im also curious if the reserve is significantly different from their generic napa cab. I really didn’t like the 2022 Turnbull i had last year

2017 Heitz Martha’s Vineyard at $195 today.

Has anyone drank clos des papes recently?

Looks sold out already.

They’ve got several vintages of Martha’s for sale at WineSlash but not as cheap.

I just ordered a 2nd bottle of the '23 Beau Vigne cult for $25 in the store. I paid $35 when they offered it weeks ago. I’ve seen some WB posters pooh-pooh Beau Vigne but many of their wines do get high reviews scores.

Cracking one of those 2008 Firefly cabs that came up a few times recently. I’ll report back in a few hours

Beau Vigne is a flash sale sugar daddy.

Cork broke on opening, A bit rasin-ated and flat at first decant, with some musty cellar funk aromas. Thought there might be some life and freshness left but it quickly faded. At 14.2% I was hoping this wine might have a fresh spine but I fear they harvested much riper and watered down heavily. Get a lot of plummy pruned fruit. Still some tannins. Wine is not dead per se, just very tired

Think they sell any bottles at the $125-200 price points they claim? Costco and Flash Sites….its the dollar store wine!

My experience with the '08 Firefly Nicole was very similar to yours. I decanted at 4 and it did improve by 9 or 10 so I would recommend decanting this wine. I now wish I didn’t buy 4 bottles but for $20 it’s OK.

Mine tasted best at first pop and slowly lost character. I might have actually skipped the decant if I wasn’t trying to filter out all the broken cork lol

I’m with you there. I found it to fade after being open two or so hours. Better at pop and pour.
