I trust you more than wine spies! But I had Pezzato at $80 this year and I think it’s gonna be hard to beat that from any other Napa cab at any price.
Any thoughts on the source for the secret Rutherford bottling?

Lol must have missed the hype this morning, thanks!
Not sure it’s hype as much as it is…why are they hiding it this time if they didn’t hide it the last couple times? The previous Secret Veil offers weren’t double secret or whatever.
Because they don’t sell it off if people knows…
That’s definitely the negative viewpoint, and maybe it, or perhaps Faustini customers were pissed off to have paid $175 or Beckstoffer told Faustini they can’t sell wine below a certain price point now and it resulted in an NDA. I don’t assume malice here. Sounds like others really like this wine.
No one here is assuming anything mean or bad. It is just marketing (if the wines is in fact that one)
Their end goal is selling, nothing wrong with that. No malice here, pure logic
Obviously taste is subjective but I just had another disappointing cab from WS. Piolet 2021 Columbia valley. Overripe, overly toasty oak, flabby tannic structure, absent acid. Glad I only paid $35 but still wish I hadn’t gotten it. I cannot fathom someone paying the $90 retail for this wine…
Interesting. I’d heard some good things about Piolet, so that’s a bummer that it flopped. I do agree with the other sentiments here - I’ve become very picky and don’t typically buy unless I’m familiar. The locker feature is great though. I don’t mind a handful of bottles hanging in their warehouse for expended periods while I fill out a case. And I’ve had great experience with their customer service.
It wasn’t necessarily flawed or bad wine. Just a ridiculous notion at $90. Even at $35 I feel like I can get the same bottle of wine from Sonoma for $25.
I’m not sure if maybe placebo got me hooked originally but I feel like the first 2-3 cases I got from WS were full of good interesting wines at a good value, and the most recent 2-3 have had a lot of duds.
I still really enjoy the service but I am starting to completely avoid all the cabs I see on here because even at the discount they hardly seem worth it recently. I might have to give camx a try to fill my affordable cab needs
For sure. I was interested after you said that so I took a look at my history. My first couple lockers had a decent amount of Cab or Bourdeaux blends that were awesome. The last 3ish years I’ve basically only purchased Rhone varietals from all over the place and some Nebbiolo. And I haven’t bought much in the past year. Some interesting Pinot offers recently but no Cab.
Any thoughts on the 2019 Tolosa Primera? Looks like a potential good deal
The 2021 Gary Farrell Klopp Ranch Pinot for $26 is a ridiculous value. Why by mystery Wines when you can buy something like that? If I wasn’t overloaded, I would buy six of them
This is on Last Bottle not Wine Spies…
Correct my mistake
Anyone had the Fortuna Terrae in the store? That seems like a kind of iconic bottling of Malbec.
usually really good. a very long term wine - adrianna vyd wines have pretty high acidity. that’s probably about the price you could find it at most online retail.
had to LOL at their offer of the day though. selling the alta at SRP and claiming it’s $85 elsewhere is shameful
Yeah I thought it was a bum offer and then saw the fortuna terrae and thought…something I haven’t had at a fair single bottle price for free shipping assuming the other 11 bottles I find are in a similar boat.
Gave the Piolet 2 days to breath hoping the oak would settle in. It did a little bit, and the wine is better than the other day, but its still a sickeningly sweet aroma from the oak. Like maple syrup.
