The tougher question would be wine match for the current coronation dish - spinach & broad bean pie (it’s not a quiche, sorry). Spinach and eggs, not an easy match. Champagne aside.
Ugh.
Bordelet pear cider is my go to with quiche and might work well here.
Maybe demi-sec Vouvray?
Maybe a Mourvèdre rosé?
I’m kind of making it as a joke, too. I couldn’t care less about the royal family honestly; but I’ll take any excuse to make a fun meal and pair it with something good to drink. For example, I usually cook up something special l for the solstices and equinoxes. And on the jokey side of things, I arranged a “blind-tasting” of chocolates and wines for the finale of the trashy reality show Love Is Blind. Like I said, any excuse for a nice meal and to top the cork on a nice bottle.
I made it! I found a video on YouTube that features what is supposed to be the original recipe. No raisins, almonds, mango chutney, or sandwich bread. I have to say, I thought the meal was actually very enjoyable. As I said above, I kind of made it as a joke, but it really did taste great. Here is a link to the recipe I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZJHIOtoH3M
I highly recommend this channel btw, if you like long drawn out videos about food and/or history.
And for the wine? I liked the Riesling suggestions above. Most of the suggestions were for Riesling with a little sweetness, but I had a dry Alsatian Riesling from Trimbach that I had been dying to try bc of this recent thread. It was a decent pairing, actually. The Coronation Chicken sauce is light in body, but with lots of fat, so the high acidity was a good match. The wine itself was a bit meh. TN coming soon.
