For perspective, we need to see receipts for those old hammer prices. As someone who was buying Napa cab 20 years ago I always like a good trip down the lane of what I should have been buying. (Not that I had the disposable income to do so)
Wednesday wine of the day…
I love these wines, Clos du Roi is the pick but it gives an insight into what DRC saw and ultimately blended into a “generic” Corton. I’ve not had the chance but I’d happily pit an 02 or 05 to see how they compare.
That is now DRC
You are halfway done. Enjoy the maturing wines you own, thin the herd, and replace.
Got some catching up to do…
Thursday wine of the day. Love Lamy’s wines and this is a small holding of 0.05hectares even smaller than d’Auvenay who have 0.06 but it is the smallest white grand cru at 1.57 hectares in total. Doesn’t say haut densité on the bottle but will need to check other bottles to see when that started. Bottled by hand!
Oh now you’re just showing off.
Wow, very impressive collection
It does when you are older, at least for some of us!
CW,
Are you opening these wines or just re-discovering them, one bottle/day at a time? If drinking, please post tasting notes on these rarities!
If simply re-discovering, then it seems like you may have a bigger appetite for the chase than for the consumption. If that’s the case, I’d echo other posters that you should sell a whole bunch for huge profit, and resume your chase in earnest with newfound cash and storage capacity!
Good luck,
Peter
A rare beast. I love 99 Volnay - perhaps 2010 will prove to be better but there is a gulf in wine making between the 2 vintages and they are quite different stylistically.
So lovely.
Keep it coming. Awesome fun.
Damn, I just embarked on a dry journey. First in 30 years and 5 days in. Fantastic thread!
This thread should have a wine posted every few hours
Interesting how there are 2 different styles of labels for different vineyards in the same vintage. I’ve always had a soft spot for La Combe d’Orveaux as it’s round the corner and up the valley from Musigny. They say it should have been part of Musigny and they just didn’t fill out the paperwork but I don’t agree with that as it’s not as good in my opinion and although next to Musigny on a different aspect. However it can be a wonderful premier cru.
Following this thread…really fun to “participate” as you work your way through. Keep posting those find, if you would.
I spy some Clos Rougeard in the back there. Well done!
