I’m wondering if anyone here has purchased cellar racking from Wine Cellar Innovations. How was your purchase experience? When I purchased my cellar racking from them in February they said there would be a 5 week lead time. When I inquired at week 6 their reply was it is set to ship the second week of May, buuuut, for a $500 upcharge they can get it to me the second week of April.
Huh? I feel like the guy having to slip the usher a c-note to be sure he doesn’t seat me behind a guy who is 7’ tall. Did they try to pull this on you?
Check out Wine Racks America Brian. I had an EXCELLENT experience with them. Highly, highly recommend.
And if you’re doing a large order, talk to someone on the phone and see if they can get you a reduced price. That’s how it shook out for me, granted it was a handful of years ago.
Taking an order that they will ship in eight weeks and instead extending that to 12 weeks unless I pay an upcharge is just sleazy business if you ask me. They can take their upcharge and stick it in their outbox.
I’m 90 days into this order. I spent a lot of time looking at all my options and went with Wine Cellar Innovations because the racking was only single deep rather than double deep plus the slots were large enough to accept Turley, old Pax and other large bottles that I have in stock which don’t fit in my current racking. Thanks though.
I used Wine Racks America also-no issues at all, had some very minor damage in shipping and they had replacements here in a few days. Easy to work with and very responsive. They have a “sale” virtually every holiday also.
Ahhhh, gotcha! Sorry to hear about the struggles and questionable business practices buddy. I hope they work with you and get the racks to you quickly (and cost effectively).
Not to pile on… But I racked both my cellars with Wine Racks America and happy with the experience. First time no problems at all. Second time, one of the sets had a couple of improper pieces in it and missing the correct parts. They rushed out the proper pieces. Thought they handled the mistake about as well as a company could.
Sorry about Wine Cellar Innovations. That practice sucks, because you can be sure some customers who ordered after you are paying the $500 to jump ahead of you, pushing your order out even further. Reminds me of travel insurance sold by airlines. What incentive does the airline have to be on time and not cancel flights? The more flights the airline cancels, the greater the need for the traveler to have insurance which they purchase through that airline. Messed up.
+1. I started a thread on them awhile ago with my positive experience.
As for Brian, I would escalate. But if they don’t give you satisfaction, your choices are to cancel and use someone else, pay the ransom, or wait longer. Agree it’s distasteful - if they had said upfront they can provide expedited service for an upcharge that would be one thing, but do have to pay to get a still later than promised delivery is pretty poor form.
I realize this won’t help Brian with his existing order, but in case this is not the last time he orders racks or for others who are looking to buy racks, I figured I would chime in with my experience.
I also bought a rack from WRA and had a good experience, although for their metal racking I found you can buy it from various wholesalers for a much lower price.
I 100% agree an upcharge at this stage is sleazy. I also think it’s fair to remind oneself that most of the world has been dealing with extended lead times, and massive delays. The latter doesn’t forgive the former, but I’m in the camp that it’s easiest to simply move on and accept that in the end it will likely work out ok.
All good, it’s just funny how the majority of posters in this thread recommend WRA and almost nobody addresses his actual question regarding the $500 “bribe”
Bought my whole cellar racks/bins from Wine Cellar Innovations about 2 years ago. Some assembly required but no upcharge or anything shady. Delivered quickly and overall I’ve been really happy with them.
I will say places are still slammed with odd supply issues. Our couch is on a 5 month lead because of the steel in the recliner mechanism. My company can’t get certain circuit boards made because specific (simple, cheap) components being out of stock.
In just about any manufacturing they offer up a “jump the line” surcharge if you really want to shorten lead times. Sounds like what they were doing, but they could have explained it better.
They explain in their shipping policy all about COVID delays and the like. I get that, I’m a retailer myself and the wholesale supply chain is all fu¢ked up. Once I have product it’s going out the door and I’m on to the next sale. I don’t play games. This upcharge thing just got under my skin because it is completely manufactured as a profit center.
Yeah, my kitchen appliances from
November are not due until May at which time they’ll likely bump the date another 60 days again. Like they did in December and March.
WCI was paid in full at the time of the order. Upcharging now is just BS.
