This forum is still young, and we have a lot of new members. Like the first day of kindergarten, I’d like to go around the room and ask our retailers to introduce themselves. Where do you work? What regions or styles do you consider your specialty?
Just click on our website at the bottom of this post…
Carrie and I own Napa Valley Wine & Cigar. Retail wines, cigars and accessories. We also have a wine lounge and a separate self-contained smoking lounge.

I love these husband wife teams we have on this board!
I work for Hi-Time Wine Cellars on the weekends:
I also work for Fourcade & Hect Wine Selections (featuring the wines of Mr. Cargasacchi ), I also work for a South American distributor, Rio Joes Brands http://www.riojoes.com" onclick=“window.open(this.href);return false;. I also work 20 hrs/week at National Retirement Partners in Capistrano Beach http://www.n-r-p.com” onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
Sounds like a 60 hour week. BTW your avatar brings fond memories of upgrading my wine selection from jug red to high end wines of the time.
Ok, I run WINE EXPO in Santa Monica, Ca. We sell primarily European wine and direct import most of that. Our main interests are Italy (with wines from EVERY region and not just concentrating on Toscana e Piemonte), Grower Champagnes and Belgian Ales with minors in Spain, Portugal, Malt Whiskey and Tequila. We do NOT sell Moet, Mumms or Veuve or Antinori, Corvo or Santa Margherita but DO have lots of Buttafuoco, Valtellina and Lambrusco.
We have no use whatsoever for scores or reviews of any kind and sell what WE think (make that KNOW) is good and have earned a rabid nationwide clientele because we are generally right. As a former employee used to say, “Come on in and join the cult, the Koolaide is really good!”
Is that better?
Can you ship the minors out of state?
In Spain the age of consent is THIRTEEN so I guess so…

I sell crazy
I’d like to call it retirement, but that would be a complete fabrication. Right now, I do PT any and everything wine related – cellar work, sales, admin, etc.
I will forever associate that with this scene…
Absolutely, that’s how I feel.
Now we are going to do something extremely fun.
We’re going to play a wonderful game called “Who is your daddy?”
Who is your daddy, and what does he do?
I used to work part-time for a small, independent wine retailer in Carmel, Indiana. Sadly the owner sold to a chain store and it’s never been the same. They use chain store logic to try and sell fine wine and they are failing. For some reason I still work a few nights a week.
We have a whole 'nother forum for that game
Peter Tryba
I’m VP of Marty’s in Newton, MA
We have extensive selections of Gourmet Food, Spirits, Craft Beer, and (of course) fine wines from around the globe.
Even after nearly two decades “in da biz” I continue to learn new things every single day. I’ll never specialize because it is much too much fun to experience the incredible variety of the edible sin business (and I’m not talking about edible undies [rolleyes.gif] )
