I picked this up from Costco a couple of weeks ago to try and opened last night. Perfectly drinkable. I have very limited experience with Riesling. This forum is encouraging me to try new things.

I am loving the 2023 vintage!
Popped a 2023 Falkenstein Gisela last night and oh my does this have so many things going on, it is impossible not to give it your full attention. Beautiful soaring aromatics that smell like well riesling! On the palate there are so many complex flavors. This is a true lemon head candy wine well at least the lingering aftertaste of sucking one. BUT the acidity in this is buttressed by exotic fruits and is intense but completely in balance. A near perfect wine…

Why does he say that, other than having 23 available to sell?
He liked the vintage better. I didn’t follow up and ask why. He didn’t have to twist our arm to buy anything though. He gave me his rankings for the most recent vintages and I do not recall the order. 22 and 23 he highly regards.
Boy I am really skeptical that anyone’s 2022s are top tier.
I am very much a riesling newb. I defer to those of you who have tasted more over time. I have enjoyed the 22s I’ve tasted my last few trips over here.
The 2022s seem to be fine, but just not particularly interesting. Maybe in time.
The Nahe does typically buck the trend. I do not like 22s in the Mosel. I have not had enough from the Nahe to have a strong opinion but I do like the ones I have had much better than other regions.
The biggest problem with 2022 is that it is in between 21 and 23 two vintages I really like.
This is a gross generalization, but 2022 seems a little flat flavor wise to me. It’s like all the ingredients are in the dish, except not quite enough salt. Nothing pops.
It’s not an acidity thing, as I am no acid fanatic. I felt similarly about a number of 2020s, though with 2020 it’s a distinct hole in the mid-palate.

Same. It reminds me a bit of 14 when young. Those wines have turned out much better than I would have thought.
And this is why I deferred my own thoughts. I’ve only been tasting for the last 2.5-3 years or so on work trips to Germany. Not enough bottles consumed for me to formulate an opinion over time
