Which Riesling are you drinking?

That is marble set into the concrete for working pastry. The rest of the counters are all poured concrete.

I didn’t pay attention to the bottle when I grabbed this and thought it was the Piesporter. But clearly not, more reductive, more talcum, more weight, more Rheinhessen. Needs time but also great now.

What a beautiful house (at least what I can see of it). Well-done!

Thank you, Maureen. You need to accept one of my invitations one of these days and confirm in person!

Our biggest lineup yet, Sunday afternoon, for our first East Bay + SF meetup (with guest of honor @LisaT):

Thanks again @Larry_Stein for the amazing venue recommendation. Instant new favorite!

WotD for me was 2021 Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Großes Gewächs and 2020 Riesling Ayler Kupp Reserve Margarethenhof Estate

You’re welcome! It was a very fun event. My favorites were 1997 Weinbach Riesling Schlossberg Ste. Catherine Cuvée du Centenaire and 2014 Von Winning Ungeheuer GG.

Taishan Cuisine rocks! The leftover yellow eel clay pot fried rice made for a delicious breakfast yesterday.

2009 Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler Bernkasteler Badstube am Doctorberg Riesling Spätlese

Paired with Burmese food. Only 400 cases made. Medium yellow color. The acidity was on the lower side. Notes of green apples and pears in the moderately sweet wine. Drink now. 88 points.

I am really loving 2023 dry Mosel rieslings. Two recent bottles were excellent, 2023 Ulli Stein Palmberg and 2023 Kilburg Goldtropfchen.

For 2023 dry Mosel rieslings we’ve had the Dr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten and Wehlener Sonnenuhr GG’s along with the Heymann-Lowenstein Rottgen GG and all were phenomenal. I would’ve liked to have a hole bottle to see how they develop but unfortunately it was only a glass of each.

Oh Gisela you beauty. I love this cuvée.

Yesterday it was a bit up and down, but you could sense the quailty. Today it has come together and is just stunning.

Fresh rubber sneaks. Intense lime note. Mineral, grapefruit, acidic apples, pineapple, slightly floral, a bit of honey and just overall great. Acidity for days! I prefer the 2021, which is the lastest I’ve tasted, but who cares as this is awesome.

You probably know that “Oh, Gisela” is a song by Marius Müller-Westernhagen. I love this wine, too. Gisela is usually the “best cask” at Falkenstein each vintage.

Thanks for your tasting note on the 2022. The 2021 is extra special. The 2023 is also outstanding.

From what I’ve had so far, which is a small sample (maybe 12-15 different bottles over various vintages), the '23 Meyer Nepal is definitely my favorite. The first bottle of anything I’ve had that is neck and neck with Ludes.

Meyer Nepal is one of the best wines, and is usually the only one that is bottled in magnums each vintage.

Do any of those make it to the US?

Yes, the mags are imported to the States.

This was an unexpected treat. Beautifully textured, intense flavors, mineral depth, and minty herbaceous noteson an elegant and airy frame. Drinks on the drier side in spite of its lushness. I wanted a touch more acidity, but this is being nit picky; the wine has impeccable balance. Really good wine for about $25. I can see this being special with five more years in the bottle, but good luck keeping your hands off them.
