from whom.
Been thinking of replacing my camp knife with this:
Looking at the Glasvin website, I only see an Ah so opener.
Yes, this one.
The Boomerang is not necessarily OK to carry on a plane. Mine got confiscated.
I am surprised that no one has mentioned my favorite corkscrew: the Screwpull, now known as Le Creuset. I particularly like the pocket model, but the table model is good too. The table model has lots of knockoffs.
I have a Rabbit (a gift that I have used exactly once in 20 years), a Durand, an Ah So, a table-model Screwpull, plus miscellaneous other openers. It’s the Screwpull that is my go-to, and it’s over 30 years old. I hope the Le Creuset version works as well, in case the one I have ever breaks.
It just doesn’t get any cheaper and sleeker with such a good performance than this!
Hate the shipping package… explodes with all this fuzzy mess like asbestos. Seems well made… haven’t opened a bottle yet
“Silent”?
Can we get a loud version?
that would be disrespectful
Crafted by the nuns at the convent?
The reason in the USA is the patent doesn’t run out till March 2026 so The Durand guy could sue you for the knock off. You could always try and get the patent invalidated but good luck on that one. There are knock offs but they seem to mostly be out of china/HK.
The main thing that keeps me from investing in a quality corkscrew is that I know that no matter how good the corkscrew is, and no matter how many years it might be able to properly remove a cork from the bottle, the foil blade attached to the corkscrew will be dull as a rusty butterknife in a matter of months. Those microserated blade can’t be sharpened, so into the trash it goes.
What I really want is a great corkscrew with a replaceable blade! If that existed, I’d feel more comfortable spending $30, $50, $100 on a great corkscrew knowing that I wouldn’t have to throw it away in 9 months.
Until that exists, I guess I’ll just keep buying an $8 TrueTap from Amazon every six months or so.
Two things:
I don’t give a dang about the capsule. Rip that sucker right off. I use the point of the worm to tear it, then rip it off.
For $10 I can get a great two stage corkscrew from several manufacturers. They last essentially forever, but if one fails, no big deal, grab another.
Not paying more than $10-15 for a corkscrew, that I might lose or forget at a wine dinner.

I do this too, because it gives me a chance to inspect at least the exterior of the cork.
I’ve been living my whole life with free waiters corkscrews I got from wine shows, wine shops, etc. I never broke one, never had issues with the blade. Never thought I needed better.
But this board got me to buy a Durand so who knows? I might own a paid for corkscrew some day!
I’ve noticed lately on IG that many somms opening old or interesting bottles are using knockoff Durands. Many are likely from outside of the US though.
