We had friends over on Saturday. I opened a couple of bottles of wine and at the end of the night, while cleaning up, one of our guests (or my wife) put my corkscrew in the dishwasher and ran it. I found it on Sunday afternoon. There’s some rust and whatever it was that made the wood/bone handle shine is now gone.

sir, this is a wendy’s.

also - for the sake of the broader WB community - this is peak Mike Cohen content.

I am here for you!

Must’ve been the moon.

I opened a few bottles Saturday night. Put my pants in the washing machine Sunday morning and apparently my wood handled corkscrew was in the pocket. I’m very anal about emptying pants pockets but obviously missed that! Was a funny surprise when I put the pants in the dryer last night.

Dude, like who leaves clothes in a washing machine for 24 hours?

I put the clothes in the washing machine about 11a Sunday morning. And, put them in the dryer about 5p Sunday evening. Was running errands and prepping for Super Bowl in between. I posted on Monday, “last night” was Sunday…

Actually, misread that you started the washer Saturday evening rather than Sunday morning, but just razzing you.

Is this a double lever? Doesn’t look like it.

Thanks.

Similar experience with my two Chateau Laguiole corkscrews that I also have owned for over 20 years. Used them exclusively until I purchased a Coutale Sommelier Prestige five years ago because of the double hinge. My Coutale now gets more use as I’m getting older and appreciate the double lever and is holding up well, especially since I paid $30 at the time. For $30, I feel the quality is very good.

The new generation of Thiers corkscrews comes in a double hinge

Just received mine. Best $6 I’ve ever spent. Amazing quality, really. THANK YOU for the recommendation.

Reading through this thread, I just kept thinking, “My favorite is a freebie I got from a winery.” In fact, I just used it. Took a closer look, it’s a Coutale. Love it.

Coutale is absolutely insane for the price. I just ordered 120 pieces with company logo on of the Innovation - Able to hand them out to good customers or sell them for about €5… I don’t think you can find a better corkscrew for the price.

I’m not surprised by the person who mentioned it but am surprised that no one else did.

The campagnolo corkscrew is a work of art. His two inventions, the rear derailleur for a bike and a corkscrew.

It’s a home only due to size.

i appreciate the design effort, but i’m looking for a waiter-type version.

to save folks a click: it’s $290

Is $100 a compromise? :joy: ordered a Craighill opener the other day and waiting to see if it’s an upgrade over the standard.

this one? Best Wine Key – Craighill

was looking for more sleek elegance, but yeah, this seem really well built and giving vintage defender 90 vibes!

please post feedback here after you’ve taken it for a test drive.

mentions a serrated foil cutter, but not obvious in the photos. i have a very specific take on this feature; unless the serration is extremely fine, it will tend to scratch up the foil as opposed to a clean incision. the proper wine key should have a straight edge blade here with a deep angle. think more deba than bread knife.

Where? I would think the Glasvin of corkscrews is made in China. Isn’t that where Glasvin comes from?
