This week opened up a Romanian wine, 2022 Brutler Gisela. The Brutler family is Austrian, and the website shows both Romanian and Austrian addresses. It is composed of unspecified red and white grapes done as a gemischter Satz. The wine is salmon colored with 11% ABV. I found it pleasant with a very light smokiness, ala a Loire cab franc rosé. Served gnocchi and greens with miso butter.

Two good ones here.

Guyot Le Baiser 2023
Pinot from Irancy. Juicy, smokey, a bit on a sweeter side but offset by good acidity. Nothing cerebral, a fine fun wine.

Buronfosse Varron 2022
A model Savagnin with good acidity. Earthy, nutty, yeast notes dsappear with air. Lemongrass, yellow fruit, stones. Should benefit from aging.

Fwiw, i have an offer out for the new Melsheimer releases.
Get it while the gettin’ is good.

2011 Milos Plavac

Mainly ungrafted Plavac Mali, grown on an amphitheater like vineyard next to the Dalmatian sea on Peljesac and a contender for one of the most beautiful vineyards. And best QPR wine around.

This entry bottling shows no sign whatsoever of loosing steam. Dark and red fruits, herbal, hint of Brett. Still bite to the tannins, good freshness with cutting acidity, salinity and a very long finish.

Day two and three it just gets better.

Sitting here at Frenchette and saw it(‘23) on the list. Asked for a sip, and yes it’s a little too heavy on the VA, plus the fruit is very tart in the first place.

I remember there being some discussion of the maison valette switch to NV a while back, and I forget if it was discussed but the new front labels have a lot number and a list of the vintages that are contained in the bottom left. Also no formal notes, but the current release of the macon chaintre NV (L06, 19, 21, 22 iirc) is very delicious.

I really love these wines

  • 2022 Julie Balagny Vin de France b...j.l..s - France, Vin de France (5/6/2025)
Lovely nose with darker fruit, cherries, a good dose of VA, pine needles, and blood orange. Nice acidity with similar primary fruit notes, a hint of pepper, and underwood on the palate. Good finish. Just a lovely, easy drinking natural wine. What a pleasure! (91 points)

There are split opinions about this cuvée on this board, but I love it. 2016 still shows young, but is open for business! The nose is intensely peppery in the best possible way. Jumps out of the glass as pop’n’pour.

Great minds think alike @LasseK
Also thought I’d do a review now.

Sooo, I’m heading back to Korea on Sunday, so time for a final fun weekend.

Georges Comte - Les Pelerins 2014

  • Nose is dominated by lemon juice and yoghurt. Long drink with laser acidity leaning into an elegant and mouth filling sip of salty lemon and a touch of honey. Very linear. Can cellar for two more decades easy.
On day 2 no particular development.

Ferme de la Sansonniere - La Lune 2017

  • Deep honey notes in the nose and a long candied peach vibe. The amphore version in comparison to this had no RS. Here it’s 8mg and I already find it disturbing. I don’t really get the variation from Mark Angeli concerning these wines? It’s flabby.

Claire Naudin Myosotis Arvensis 2021

  • Strong nose of pepper, cherry and a whiff of tobacco. Really good acidity keeping it really fresh and with the stemminess of it, it’s a very upright and broadshouldered wine. Big. Curious to see where it lands in 3 years time. The rest of the case will sleep til ’28

Domaine Labet - Assemblage 2018

  • Second time with this since August. Big big big sous voile. Very fragrant cinnamon, incense, curry. I mean it’s to me the best miniature VJ out there, and I’d almost rather do this one at half the price.
On day 2 this has become even better.

Domaine Labet - Macvin

  • This macvin from Labet is among my favorites. Cloves, cinnamon, vanilla and well, yes, raisins. Lovely little streak of VA or acidity that keeps it really fun and fresh. So good.

Haha I remember the 2017 La Lune on release. It was alll the hype in Copenhagen back then. Loved some previous vintages and then the 2017 showed so surprisingly sweet I stopped buying them

And fully agree with Labets “mini VJ”. Amazing wine.

I’ve sold everything now! Can’t be bothered with this variation :expressionless:

It’s so strange though. Stopping and moving on. Recent release from the son seems much more focused though.

So Copenhagen of you Lasse :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::joy:

Bernadeau started having a little sugar in 2017 or 2018 too.
Not my thing.

i agree. have no idea how/why people justify the secondary market pricing. frankly i think olivier lejeune is making wine closer in style to the earlier dry vintages of bernaudeau. the worst tho are some of angeli’s wines which feature both excessive rs and oak…such a terrible combination. certain vintages of blanderies comes to mind, however when dry it can be brilliant.

2016 CASAS DE ENRIBA DATERRA VITICULTORES (LAURA LORENZO)

Closed and quite “smokey” the first night, put aside and on day two this is a lot more rewarding. Sampled over 3-4 days.

Red fruits and berries (strawberries),quite some herbal notes, spices, floral.

Sneaky tannins, high acidity and a long finish that reinforces all elements of the wine. Showing really well, except it will keep going for quite some time, perhaps alap improve. Quite impressive.

Exactly this.
Got two Poiesis 24 Mois from ‘21 in the other day. Might pop one to reconfirm my love for Chenin.

2019 La Vigne des Pères (Aymeric Paillard) St. Joseph Petit Pere
(and home baked bread)

More rough work than fun at this stage. Ripping tannins, a touch of brett, screeching acid, a bit of va. Very dark, a typical Northern Rhone Syrah mix: dark fruit, black olives, leather, meat, tar. Calming down a bit on day 2 and 3. Challenging, not uninteresting, but not easy to handle without food.

I’ve also had mixed experiences with Mark Angeli’s wines in the past. Especially with Les Blanderies. But I’ve enjoyed the most recent vintages of La Lune (21 & 22). I think the real problem is that these wines have gotten a bit too expensive. So here’s a Chenin that really impressed me and that I consider great value for money (Paid 32 euros for it). I had Batardiere’s L’Esprit Libre the other day and this was much more impressive and serious for only 2 more euros.

Les Enfers Tranquilles 2021 by Michel Autran.

Fresh, rich, and tense Chenin from Vouvray, France. The color is medium to pale gold. Expressive nose with notes of Bruised apples, lemon, vanilla, a hint of honey, and butter. Crisp acidity on the palate. Pear, citrus, cream, and minerals. Medium length finish.

Final wines from here. Now back to the ocassional bottle.

Stephane Bernaudeau - Coqueries 2022

The nose doesn’t do much besides a very elegant red apple scent and a bit of reduction. The acidity is on the strong side and it’s of course a bit young all things considered, but there’s a big wine beneath.
The mouth is dominated by white orchard fruits but centered on ripe red apple.

As another note on CT points out, there’s a slight mousiness to the wine. Not enough to disturb me, but I wouldn’t have expected this. Notes from previous vintages doesn’t mention this, so must be an anomaly.

Mémée Marie - Francois Rousset Martin 2017

Really amazing nose of caramel, lime and a bit of hay. Very classic Jura profile. Suppossedly made as the ‘entry’ cuvee for FRM, but after having had many wines of his, this really can stand with the ‘better’ ones.
I think it’s 95% Chardonnay and 5% Savagnin, which lends a powerful hand, especially on the nose. There’s a slight oxidative character, which I find interesting as a ‘welcome to Jura’ kind of entry wine. Great stuff. Where did those days go when it was 22€ a bottle?

La Fleur au Fusil - Vins du Cabanon(Castex) 2022

This jumped right out the glass with ripe red berries and ‘spiciness’. So lively and fun. Not particularly deep but the fruit that is the center and front is very polished for a producer as wild as Castex was. I really liked it.
