Wish I could provide some info., but my first plunge. Thatcher message came through this morning with focus on Billon and as happens too often, went down that rabbit hole.
Additionally, had a need for 2019 Cote-Rotie for an upcoming (27th) Northern Rhone tasting. Will take the Les Elotins to this group, then open the La Vialliere (nothing on CT?) at home in February. Will throw out some info. next month.
I tried a '19 Brocarde in couple months ago. Unfortunately an hour or two decant was not long enough and the next thing I knew our group drank the whole bottle. Been thinking about trying another by myself and giving it more air time. Seemed like it had all of the pieces and was well made, just a little shy/muted.
The one I have tried is the 2016 Billon CĂ´te-RĂ´tie Vieilles Vignes, which I bought a few from Lyle Fass:
11/30/2020 - Tasted over two days. This is a very dark and impressive Cote-Rotie, dense and powerful and therefore unlike other Northern Rhone wines I have tasted from the 2016 vintage. The nose is very dark berries tinged with floral notes and smoky game; very refined and clear nose. On the palate there is a lot of extract here, dense but fresh with excellent acids - juicy. The fruit is very ripe but itâs beautifully relieved by the acidity. Power and finesse. On the first day, very fine tannins close out the finish with a cottony texture; these eased significantly toward silkiness on day 2, which showed the wine more open and no worse for wear given the day of air. Iâm burying my other bottle for at least ten years.
More champagne (again)⌠and a bonus non-wine purchase

I posted my last Lafite Rothschild purchase in the supermarket thread but Iâll post this one here. Several months back I bought a 2008 Lafite Rothschild at my local grocery store that rang up at $279.99. Obviously not in the system correctly but I took advantage of the opportunity. Today they had a 2009 in the wine cabinet with no price tag so I asked for a scan. It rang up again at $279.99 so I bought it. Plus $1.25 in fuel saver points so another $25 off. BTW, Iâm a Napa Cab guy and not a big Bordeaux guy but I opened the 2008 last month and we enjoyed it with some Morgan Ranch Wagyu flank steak smoked and the reverse seared. Both were fantastic! My wife loved the Lafite.
Nope I am cellaring all my LdH blancos to age them further.
I do my best to keep my hands off them, but itâs tough.
How much do you get the GRs for down under? Are they cellar price, or do you also get the crazy markups that we get in the US?
There is no three tier system in NZ so the retailer is also the importer. The price is extremely fair and reasonable; but we get tiny allocations. I am fortunate to get these at all, the GR are all single bottle allocations.
These are the two E-O cuvĂŠes I still buy, in addition to the rosĂŠ. My favorite is the CrayĂŠres, but Iâve been priced out of those.

Thatâs a huge loss and error for a business, not sure if this is a small local grocer or a chain, but regardless, they are losing many hundreds of dollars per bottle. Not just profit, but the actual cost to them. And if this happened on a different vintage as well, presumably they have the entire lot coded improperly. That could be a very significant business loss depending on how many bottles they have. If I knew the grocer, I would call them to let them know.
