What Goodfellow/Matello are you drinking?

Last bottle of Goodfellow’s first sparkler vintage, 22 months post disgorgement. It drinks a hybrid between Meursault and Chablis with a touch of effervescent to me. Really yummy with Korean fried chicken. Glad that Marcus decided to prolong the en tirage time for extra bubble retention for the next release. For first attempt at making sparklers this is tremendous, call me Ronald McDonald cuz I’m lovin’ it.

Those are good to go? (I haven’t touched any of mine yet)

Edit: Is this the NV or the 2022 designated vintage? Or is CT wrong and those 9 bottles entered as 2022 should be entered as NV? I really can’t imagine a release with only 9 bottles making it into CT.

Should be 22 base NV. I think they are good to go now, but I’m on my last bottle and you still have 9, doesn’t hurt to experiment :face_savoring_food:

Oh no, I don’t have 9. That snip is showing that in all of CT there are 9 bottles entered as 2022 vintage and 536 bottles entered as NV. I’m guessing that the 2022 vintage entries are an error. If somebody can confirm with certainty I will enter a ticket to get them corrected.

I only have 7 bottles! (and mine are entered as the NV.) 3 of mine might be the later disgorgement though. I’m not sure as they are pending delivery.

That’s 7 more than me! I should hold out for late disgorged Goodfellow sparklers cuz I’d love a touch more richness from the extra en tirage time in this bottle, but the elements are integrated here.

These NV Goodfellow sparklers are what put me over the top to barcode my wines. That way I could quickly identify which bottles were bought when and when they were disgorged.

Taken me forever to get all the stickers placed!

I guess the 3 that haven’t been delivered yet are not a new disgorgement but a new release.

From the BD offer:

  • 3 bottles NV Durant Vineyard Blanc de Blancs Base 2022/21 (NEW RELEASE)

I guess that means a different blend than the original release?

Yep, I think mine is 21 base vs yours is blend of 20% 21 and 80% 22.

I placed the tech sheet face up so I can sort by DG date. Zero barcode needed.

I bet the 4 I have in my cellar are the same as yours because those were ordered BD 15 I believe.

Yes, but I want to have full confidence I am reading correct purchase notes and I’ve marked the correct bottle when consumed.

Not just for Goodfellow sparklers. Other NV champagne in the cellar that this is helpful for as well.

We will have a better system going forward, but for the Durant cuvées disgorged thus far, the base 19/21 was bottled in the spring of 2022 (bottling date on the back label). These all have the crest outlined only on the front label(two possible disgorgements). The second Durant cuvée (base 22/21) was bottled spring of 2023(also on the back label) and the crest is filled in on the front label. This bottling was first offered in the most recent Berserker Day, and I just started shipping (weather permitting) this week.

(@JDavisRoby @KhaN @JBrochu cheers!)

2017 PN Fir Crest Block Eleven

Quite spare on opening but blossoms with more raspberry and tart cherry fruit. So light on the palate. Gains body along with the fruit. Rose petal and savory underbrush. Great now but plenty of time to open these.

Opened a bottle of 23 Beloved Acre a few days ago. Brambly red fruits, velvety tannins. Tons of minerality and depth. Very tasty and approachable at the moment

Inspired, just opened a 2023 Durant Vineyard, Raven Block. So damn delicious. Marcus’ description back when these were released a year ago is perfect. After just a few years of drinking Oregon Pinot Noir, I think I tend to gravitate towards what all of you describe as the dark fruited wines. Although I love just about all of them. This Raven Block, tonight, is totally open for business and pleasure. Thank you for the encouragement to open another Goodfellow 2023! :wine_glass:

Glad to hear it! I opened a few 23 Pinots when they first arrived and they were quite grumpy. I’m glad they seem to be turning around

'22 Tsai Blanc de Noir from the BD 17 pack is so very nice. Perhaps the richest of the Goodfellow sparklers, this shows a very mineral and acidic version of a BdN but there is still the spiced apple character - just viewed through a stern Goodfellow lens - that we love in the broader shouldered pinot-driven Champagnes that we often drink. Lots of floral tones as well. Awesome stuff.

Continuing to dive into the 23s. This time with the Temperance Hill Chardonnay. Slightly reductive, mineral, bright citrus fruits. Temperance Chards continue to be some of my favourite in the Goodfellow range. The bottle did not last long

Goodfellow Temperance Chards have risen to the top of my list too. Enjoying the combo of reduction, crisp precision and edginess.

That said, I opened a 23 Richard’s chard a couple nights ago. I usually hold these for a few years but I ended up with more bottles than usual - something I’m now really happy about - so thought I’d try one. Had all these same qualities along with texture and depth. Just outstanding. Going to pull another soon before I let the rest sleep for a while.
