If you were savvy enough to order The Chris James on BD16, get ready for a treat with the 2022 Tsai BdN Bubbles!
Unlike last years BdB release, which came with a warning NOT to open!, I got the green light from Marcus that this is already in a nice place despite being disgorged 12/2024. As he predicted, the first pour came with an explosive tantrum of mousse. When it calmed down, what was left was mostly flat super tasty Pinot Noir. This was only an issue for the first two ounce pour. After that, the wine held the bubble just fine. This started off pretty tart (yay!) as an extra brut and had none of the reductive character of the BdBs. Not surprisingly, it continued to develop and improve with air.
I have had the opportunity to taste this several times over the last year pre-disgorgement and was really looking forward to its release. Having also tasted a number of other GF BdN currently sleeping in the nursery, I have found that these have tremendous aromatics. I am a BdB guy for Champagne, but I am finding the Goodfellow BdN may steal my heart.
