I lived in the UK for a semester in 2019. Halloumi was exploding. Fast forward today, where I can get halloumi fries in Aldi in my little town in Indiana. I don’t think that would have happened had it not been for the little Tesco.
We also did Flannery burgers, a Frankenstein mix of Kali, Adventurous, and one other I forget, with sautéed red onion, bacon, sliced smoked cheddar, and tomato.
We started with early local tomatoes and mozzarella, with basil and good olive oil (we are purists here, no balsamic allowed!) before the main event. It would not be July 4th for me without a loaded plate, in this case sautéed yellow squash (got a bit dark on one side), yellow watermelon/tomato/cucmber/goat feta/pickled red onion/basil salad, the first corn of the season, and Little Gem & radish salad. I wish the watermelon had been red, not yellow, for the sake of color on the plate, but it otherwise excellent.
Our Squash plant was eaten by gophers on Thursday. They got the Japanese Cucumber yesterday and one of our Romano Bean plants Friday. ![]()
Oh no!
So I’m hearing you say you need to eat more steak to compensate?

We had extra Flannery patties leftover from Saturday’s festivities, and tons of farmers’ market vegetables (everything shown except the avocado and pickled red onion - love this time of year!!), so we did round two for lunch yesterday. No onions or cheese on my burger this time, just bacon and avocado. To make it healthier, of course. ![]()
English peas on their own to start, and some cheese to end the day instead of dinner in the evening.
BTW - since the new software upgrade, I can’t get my pictures in the right order, whether adding one at a time, all together, or even trying to add by editing the whole post. I edit, I can’t get my cursor at the bottom after pictures to add a new one.
I’m way ahead of you on that thought Pal! ![]()

I think that’s the best looking garlic bread that I have ever seen!

It’s a “secret” recipe from a South Bay institution - “Mike’s Original By-th-Bucket.”
When you want dinner in handheld format. schwarma-spiced chicken with homemade tzatziki sauce. Rice pilaf on the side.
The Riesling was a good pairing and was flat-out delicious in its own right.
When you don’t give a s about hands and use chopsticks.
Yellow eye snapper, Thai peanut dressing slaw, gai lan in the wok and some basmati rice. There were some pickled cucumbers and pickled carrot and daikon as well that didn’t make the photo.
We were members of the clean bone club.
This cook makes me happy.
