What de Négoce wine are you drinking tonight?

Lot 307 2019 Napa Carneros Pinot Noir

Nose has some nice fruit, cola, and spice components. The body, acid, and tannins are balanced. This is well made wine and stupid good for the $12/bottle i paid for this. I miss the old de Negoce deals…

I got this bottle as a gift recently. Never had this brand before. If i was doing a blind tasting next to a dN Napa cab, what one would someone who has had this wine before suggest? I’ve got 25/17/50/100/145/200/213/241/275/300/385 among the 2017-19 Napas

That’s a tough comparison since you’re comparing a proprietary blend to a cab. 401 would be more apt, but then you’re comparing 2017 to 2021. From your list I’d try 213 or 241. I have had other carte blanche red, not the mark.

FWIW, everything that I tried on day 2 seemed to hold up well. Nothing was strikingly better. Notably 279 didn’t improve, not sure that will ever be more than a great party wine, but I’m willing to wait.

Thanks. I have 401 and 429 (My two proprietary blends) but I figured with such a big age discrepancy It wouldn’t be fair comparison.

OG Lot 159 2018 Rutherford Red Blend

One hour in the decanter. Drinking very fine now. A nice Merlot dominated Bordeaux blend. Yum :wine_glass:
Day 2 indicates more age ability.

It would be a hard measure to compete with ScOtt_B’s descriptions of consumed de Negoce wines with various selections of brontosaur’s shank, rack of lamb, turtle soup, marbled deckled steak, pork belly burnt ends, tray smoked trout or emu tenderloins, but here goes my wine selection to go with yesterday’s 2014 Reserva Cameron Hughes 833 Rioja Tempranillo soaked marinated slow cooked (let’s be honest, ~ 14 hour crock pot endeavor) spiced corned beef.

Out came a well balanced Lot 142 Horse Heaven Hills 2018 Malbec bottled Feb 2021. Though not a fruit hanging forward selection, but now a comfortable table wine with an extended pleasant bouquet. A thumbs up 89 pt single yum from me but unfortunately my wife digressed from my appreciation of this selection. Oh well, the corned beef was a table hit.

Lot 199 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Pulled the cork one hour before, then served from the bottle.
Nice black licorice aroma and complex flavors. This 2019 double Yum is ready to go, PnP now.
:wine_glass: :wine_glass: enjoy now or age a few more years if desired, only one bottle left here….

I recently opened one of the N.445 Albariño and was quite pleased. I blind tasted this and noted honeysuckle and stone fruit aromatics. Creamy mouthfeel with a nice touch of saline. This seems quite in line with dN’s tasting notes:

“Deep straw on the pour, the nose is very expressive with immediate banana, pear, and honeysuckle aromatics accented by citrus fruit and peaches. On the palate this wine is expertly balanced and medium-bodied, with melon, additional honeysuckle, and lemon distributed over a creamy texture framed by vibrant acidity and that signature saline quality that defines Albariño. The finish is clean, flaunting excellent quaffability.”

At <$12 a bottle, I’ll buy this all day long. Also gives me confidence that the new dN team can still source good wine at good prices and their tasting notes are spot on.

This will be great pool side this summer.

Looking forward to more wines like this!

  • 2017 de Négoce Cabernet Franc OG N.03 - USA, California, Napa Valley (5/31/2024)
Double decanted back into bottle half hour before serving with grilled Filet Mignon steak, steamed veggies. Beautiful dark garnet color on this Franc. Vibrant in glass. Aromas of dark plums with elegant French Oak spices emanate from decanter. Flavors of dark raspberry, dark chocolate helped along with a mouthful of glycerin. Excellent tannic structure really compliments food and of course that ever present long de Negoce finish. This has improved from last tasting Nov '22. Glad to have almost a case left (that one my friend declined- thank you Nick). (93 points)

Great post Dave!
I have never found any reasons to lose my confidence in the “new team” either!
Also, the customer service has never been better.
I like the new “Booze Bucks” :heavy_dollar_sign::heavy_dollar_sign:, too! Points = dollars credit.
The 2019 Eleveur Cote d’ Or, I ordered Tuesday, arrived on Friday.
What happened to this alleged Ponzi scheme??
Cheers :grinning::wine_glass::+1:

Thanks @Sc0tt_B! As we did with Cam at the beginning, many of these new, younger red wines need to sit for a bit. If the quality of the whites is an indicator, we’ll all be singing praises in the coming years.

I’ve wanted to take advantage of some of the recent offers but the cellar is over stuffed!

I agree the customer service has been great. I usually receive responses within the hour and they’ve been very accommodating to hold orders while I’m out of town. The Booze Bucks are a plus too!

Curious what you think of the Eleveur you received. I was tempted, but alas. No room in the inn.

Best Ponzi scheme ever. The only “house of cards” is located in all of our cellars, closets, & basements and it’s due to collapse at any moment!

Tonight: N.09 Carmel Valley Pinot Noir (2018). Bought almost exactly 4 years ago for $12 a bottle. Still singing with dark fruits and a bit of spiciness in the mouth. Sadly, the last one for me.

Served with cornmeal crust pizza. No exotic Scott_B level toppings…

I second the appreciation on the note. Last sample for me was July ‘22 and I wrote that it was good but “coming around nicely”. First bottle I had was Aug ‘20 and I wrote “bland… hope this gets better with time”

Glad it’s showing marked improvement. Adding it to the rotation!

Dave and Paul. Thanks for follow up reply. N.03 is pretty special, first de Negoce lot I tried actually (over N.01) and it’s still improving. Enjoy that wine with special guests / food. For me, it’s memorable. Enjoy the long finish on that wine.

Dave,
N.09 Carmel Valley PN. - ah yes, my first de Negoce lot I finished. Split a case with my Pinot loving friend Nick, he drank his half case in about a couple weeks, mine couple years, I worked at a charity event pouring wine next to Annette Hoff who made that wine at Cima Collina. Her first year there 2005. Glad you enjoyed it, for me, it was good, not as insprirational as say N.24- my favorite de Negoce Pinot (and maybe favorite PN altogether).

Cheers,
Tim

I received dN 468 today and plan on trying 1 bottle tomorrow. How long should this be decanted? Thanks

Had a 159 2018 Rutherford Red Blend yesterday - very nice, mid-weight, balanced, fine tannins, a good right bank Bordeaux. Great buy.

Also had a 100 2019 Rutherford Cab a few days ago, not good at all, flabby and uninteresting. Sounds like people have been enjoying this so maybe a bad bottle?

OG N.100 2019 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

PnP, nice wine for the $192/case+ tariff. Not sure that is deserved that lot#? Very sure that it’s worth the price!
In honor of my 100th time summiting Cerro Alto Peak in the past 81 months, that’s when I started counting.
Likely actually 250+ times over the years.
It’s Ready now, will hold some for another 19 months, honoring monthly #100. God willing….
Compared side by side with #150, $144/cs… #100 wins the guzzle contest, hands down! :wine_glass:

day 2, it held up nicely

OG N.150 2019 Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Nice wine, the CS fruit really stands out. It should improve with additional cellaring. I will age the remaining 17 bottles longer. Fine QPR. :+1:p
day 3, into the cooking/brazing, bottle
