What CAM X wine are you drinking tonight?

The bottle reads 15% and there is zero heat with lot 5. Buy with confidence.

I didn’t get any heat on Lot 5 either on the one bottle I’ve enjoyed.

Lot 5 was my first CamX purchase. I later went back and got some small amounts of 1 and 2, but I think aside from 7, nothing really excited me until the 20s hit. Then the wheels came off the wagon. I still would put Lot 5 up there as one of the better wines for people who like big wines that are somewhat new to CamX. I’m putting it out there that Cam should hold back a little bit from some upcoming and stored bottles and release a BOOM BOOM mix pack.

BOOM BOOM mix pack…let’s do this. I have some folks I’d send that to.

Also great name was a 2nd label of CamX-ish wines. Cam…if you’re out there, I’m here to help with the new label…BOOM BOOM WINES

I suggest an AFWE mix pack. @Cameron_Hughe please find the leanest, most acidic juice you can get your hands on.

I’m supportive of this as well. BEEP BEEP WINES

I’d prefer ā€œDriveway Stain Cleanerā€ for those lol. I mean, that’s what I name traditional Italian wines that are super acidic at leat

Already exists….

The offer page says 15.5%, so my assumption is that it’s likely higher than that, since I believe that there is a +/- 1% cushion allowed?..…but nice to hear that you didn’t detect any heat……

Back when I was a winemaker (1980-1985) you were allowed the variance, to label 1.5% either above or below the actual.
So long as it is the same tax classification/level. Both State and Federal taxes.
Hence, many labels state 12.5%, 11%-13.9%, is all the same tax class.
14.0% or more, (desert wine?), the taxes goes much higher. Hence, a lot of 13.9% labels.
Sparkling wine is higher still (luxury?).
Probably the taxes $ amounts are higher nowadays, versus 1984……:man_shrugging:

I’m in a really funny place with my cam wines. (Dn and cam x) I’m almost out of ā€œcellar defendersā€. I have about three cases left of the Australian offers, but they keep getting better with age so I actually don’t want to drink them too fast. I have about 12 bottles of 230/240 left. And then about 24 bottles of Washington reds (150/175?) and 20 bottles of Sonoma reds. (68, 227? And some others)

Then hundreds of bottles of Napa cabs…17/50/100/145/200/213/243/274/300/385/390 /396/400/401 plus all the 500-600 dn offers and all the cam x option (plus 100 + non dn options that that may be acceptable for a certain Friday night wine club)…in sort of feel like I hit the sweet spot. I stand in my closet and look at my options and only see options that were supposed to be saved for the future and the future seems to have arrived….

Tonight was 468 (RC 2018 Napa cab shiner) with Wagyu sirloin. Absolutely amazing. Over the thanksgiving week, it was 200, 400, 119, 213. For you new folks, enjoy the can x young for your education but hold most of them for 2028.

Opened lot 5 tonight. First taste on pop and pour was alcohol and tannins. Alcohol blew off pretty quick. After 4 or 5 hours it had really evolved, the aroma loost the graphite and gained plum and berries. Pretty much the same on the palate. At P and P it was overwhelming. Hours later it was fantastic. Agree with most everything above, except I never got anything ā€œflabby,ā€ more the opposite. If I had any room left I’d buy more.

What was your ranking of these wines?

213 is amazing. Top DN wine I’ve had.
200 is not far behind
400 is enjoyable for what it is- big and over the top some might say boom boom.
119 was a pleasant difference than the very fruit forward, Australian versions in the mid 300s. A bit more spices than the Australian ones. Maybe a little bit over oaked. But enjoyable.

  • 2023 Cam X Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 01 - USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley (12/6/2025)
Notes after two hours open. A little rough for the first 15 minutes but it seemed fully settled in by 30. Very dark purple/ruby color with fat, slow legs and no sediment. Profound aromas of blackberry-cherry, roses, graphite, and mellow oak. The palate is very approachable and giving up oodles of sweet fruit and lovely barrel influence, adequate acidity and a gentle tannic grip. Setting this apart from your general crowd-pleaser, there’s some very nice nuances happening behind the boldness. Medium hang time on the finish. Pretty nice that this is ready to serve already, and the fact that it was $8.25 is just crazy. 5+12+16+8= 91 (91 points)

Two yums, one boom

Lot 5 consumed over two days. Solid Meritage, no flaw wine. Tempted to purchase more, but must try and restrain from purchasing more in order to purchase new releases. Storage limitations are a present concern.
