2019 Henri Delagrange Volnay 1er Cru Champans
Previous bottle was cursed with TCA, but this really delivers! Fresh red berries and a spicy aroma. Good length and a cool finish. Seems like a relatively unknown producer that can do Volnay at a decent pricepoint.
2006 Leo Barton in the decanter ATM. Smells good.
Many bad bottles? Not surprising, with the fishy corks.
2020 Cathiard Bourgogne.
Why can’t I find more $40 Burg that tastes like this? Probably the same reason I can’t buy cases of this one…
Mencia, mostly. If you feel bored, serve it blindly to your Beaujolais (or Burgundy) drinking buddies and have fun.
The 96 Ducru is wonderful! Had it least year, immediately tried to backfill.
How was it?
That '06 Leo Barton is a baby. Delicious, but not ready for prime time.
Its been stupidly hot here in the UK, with the highest temperatures of the year happening in September. So summer red time.
Friday was Saumur, young purple with a crunchy cabernet franc flavour.
Tonight a Bourgueil which I bought in the town in 2018.
This is a pure light red, it is fresh cherries in the mouth, not complex, but its just slipping down.
I was thinking where did you get Clos Rougeard Bourg for £20? I guess it turns out other people make a Saumur Bourg, I’ve just never heard of them.
I bought it in Bentley’s of Ludlow, in the UK. I preferred the more mature Bourgueil.
2001 Ch. Messile Cassat
A pleasant surprise. Cork came out well enough with the durand. Smells like my cigar humidor and there is some fruit left. Good match with beef and funnel chanterelles!
Looks like a lovely altocumullus lenticularis cloud in the background.
2010 Leflaive Batard Montrachet.
Thankfully not Poxed. Classy, almost racy, but balanced by a ton of scents and flavors from citrus to apple, pith and steel and gravel. Am I happy I bought it at auction in 2015? Hell yeah. Am I dying to replace it at current insane prices? Hell no. Excellent, classic, delicious, not 4-digit revelatory.
Love it. Almost bought some today.
I love Chevalarie. I just wish I had ‘14s in my cellar.
Nathalie Falmet Tentation Rosée. Just delightful. My last bottle and WS shows none in the US at the moment. I’ll have my eyes open
I have 1 Breteche left ![]()
Easy drinking. Dark-fruited and floral. Tanins are fine grained and manageable. Decent for the price.
