2017 Sigaut Chatelots is a terrific wine!
A random auction purchase about 2 years ago. Good fill and very good colour. A 57 year old Bourgogne Rouge.
Yesterday when opened it was a bit feral and overwhelmed with VA and acetic acid notes. Put the cork back in left it 24 hours. I figured a long Audouze was in order. Either it would improve or it would remain unpleasant. Nothing to lose.
Tried it again today . A significant improvement for my palate anyway. There is still a VA funky thing happening on the nose but the palate today is much better. Some lovely old brown sugar sweet fruit and wee bit of structure holding it together. A pleasant and enjoyable curiosity.
Overall I am quite happy with this. It has some interest and character and pleasure in it. But not for everyone, need to be bit of a vinous necrophiliac to enjoy this

Yaaaah Friday into, but a 4am wake up to head to Tokyo so just the one…Talbot 2006
Fuller than I expected reading the tasting notes, with deep layering middle notes and a loooong after taste. Cheese and ham/salami ok it to another level and the end result was a great hour, punctuated by bullshit man chat.
Wish I had some more as it’s boxing above its weight and vintage

Opening the 2019-edition of the “WinePorn” labeling from Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch (Erben-Thanisch) tonight. It’s a Bernkasteler Lay Kabinett for that year.
If you don’t know, a lot of the very renowned Riesling producers in Germany make a special “WinePorn”-label for a wine store in Bernkastel, and every year a special wine is selected for this to be sold at their store only. Often they’re amazing value…
Edges on glass appear correctly aged but bottle and glass color seems to look very strong!
Last one:
Better than the first two which were already enjoyable. This was a definite win at auction. Good juice.
2019 Benjamin Leroux Chambolle-Musigny
Last year this was quite stubborn and not very giving. Bottle variation? Opened up after some storage? Whatever the case, this is a very stimulating drink tonight. Wonderful spicy aroma with hints of oak, juicy and cool raspberries on the palate with a tingling of red berries on its long finish. Slightly powerful considering its a Chambolle?
2017 Jadot Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne.
Surprisingly open for business. Solid Puligny stoniness and grip. I was surprised by how lush it was for its youth and strong minerality. If I were to quibble it would be that it lacks a little complexity in the finish but that may easily come in time. In my hot n cold relationship with Jadot whites, this is a clear winner.
2020 Lorenzon Mercurey Champs Martin.
First taste of Lorenzon anything and call me impressed. A very distinctive light creaminess to the palate. Before you go shrieking off saying “too much wood” I’ll just say: this was just beautifully in balance The creaminess and light vanilla was just enough and was matched by subtle herbs and cherry. Excellent poise for a young burg, with lots of stuffing for the long haul. Lorenzon is not just “value burg” - it’s (so far for me) a distinctive voice and style that merits more of my attention.
Having seen positive comments on the 2015 Cantemerle I decided to try one.
No detailed notes taken, but this is pleasingly elegant for a 2015. No sign of over ripeness, moderate complexity on the nose. This will only get better over the next 5 years or so, but is a pleasure to drink now. 91 ish with more to come. It made the Beaumont look clumsy.
2018 de Ladoucette Pouilly-Fumé
From 375. Wow, this is unexpectedly fine. The nose portends good things, more on the tropical side of S-B, guava, mango, etc. also, lime blossom, honey, and a hint of lanolin. Hits the palate rich and broad, but not in any way unctuous or fat. Instead, there’s a baseline of granitic mineral and racy acid, fine lime/lime blossom, and a hint of ripe pineapple, nothing gooseberry or cat pee or especially tropical. Honey and lanolin provide soft contours to the structure in the mid-palate, fanning out into a very compelling finish. Really, really good. I haven’t had Vatan, but certainly up there with Cotat as the best Sauvignon Blanc I’ve ever had. And at $15 for a half, insanely good value. 94

2019 Domaine Chavy-Chouet Volnay Sous La Chapelle - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay (6/24/2023)
Perfumed, roses, floral.
Strawberry-cherry fruit, balanced by med. acid and low-ish tannins. Tea notes. 13.5% Alc.
Very nice. Could drink this all night. (92 points)
9% abv and it is not sweet!
It is like drinking water with a bit of freshly squeezed lemon and a slice of lemon peel in it. Add a salty mineral note and a stench of something floral. Almost depleted for any fruity notes. High acidity and just enough VA to give it a more sour sensation without being intrusive. Nothing complex, just very light and fun.
The nose is great with some of the same things going on, but even more expressive than the taste.
A rather unique inexpensive wine thats just summer in a glass.
I will probably buy a few more.
I had something with similar descriptors recently but the outcome was to stay away from it
.
Domaine de Sauzet Champ des Cailloux Blanc
No nose. No palate. No wine.
What is this? Mineral water? Not for me.
I think it’s 2021 but I’d need to confirm.
My wife and I celebrated a combined 65th birthday yesterday. She is in May and I am July so winter solstice is the mid point.
Some really good wines were enjoyed by all.
Very well done, Brodie. ![]()
Congratulations Brodie. Superb line up. Those old Taltarnis were good!
How was the Arnoux?
