Thank you very much!
We moved in to the house 2 months ago, so it’s really nice to have almost everything in place in the main area!
He’s a no on both. ![]()
He’s been using pesticides to get rid of the “cicadelles” if I remember correctly. And he was pretty adamant that it would keep coming back because of those “biodynamic farmers”. As for AOCs, he was saying that there was no need for a “cahier des charges” as the weather was changing quickly and the norms (“charges”) could not be adapted quickly enough.
I fear that Mr. Genty may be on to something with his second observation. ![]()
Had a great small gathering with the Danish wine friends, although one guy couldn’t make it, so we are saving some of the bigger bottles for next time…
Personally, WOTN was the Marguet Ambonnay Rosé 2017 followed by the Sigaut Chambolle 1er ‘Les Chatelots’ 2017.
The Arnaud Lambert really surprised everyone! Blind we guessed some more high-end German Spätburgunder, and we were baffled when we found out it was 100% Cab Franc from Loire - and that it was even very inexpensive!!!
2018 Aubert Eastside Chardonnay-
From CT review:
Similar taste notes to last time (pear, mild pineapple, touch of anose, and a granite like minerality) although overall a lot less austere than a year ago. Love the unusual and distinctive soft pineapple note that I shorthanded as “Açores pineapple” for anyone who’s had it. This took about an hour of air to really come into its own. Just entering its maturity window. No rush - should stay here or even improve a little over the next 3-5 years.
Have to add that I feel that Aubert has started making less voluptuous Chard (by his standards - this was still pretty rich) since about 2016 or 2017 - and I think the results are even better than before.
How was Mordoree. Bought those years ago and it had been impenetrable forever, but havent opened one since 2016 or 2017.
Last night at Le Bon Georges
Jacques Puffeney Arbois Vin Jaune 2011
Stunning. Classic and powerful nose of walnuts, red apple, coffee, caramel and oxidative overtones. The palate is so incredibly balanced. I thought the oxidative flavors would take over but no, it’s balanced, fresh and complex. There’s plenty of fruit and the acidity is not shrill it just offers the perfect medium to carry the fruit, spices, walnut and other flavors to a long persistent finish. One of the best vin jaune I’ve had.
I shared this bottle with a friend who had never tried vin jaune (or sous voile wine for that matter) and he was floored by it.
Armand Heitz Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Murgers des Dents de Chien 2019
A nose of crisp fresh red cherry, stems and spices. Bright palate which is initially all cherry but it gained volume and complexity as it got some air. I’m pretty sure this has a lot of stems in as I got those herbal notes I associate to whole cluster. It works on this wine as it adds freshness and depth. Nice finish on chalky minerality. A good young wine and I’d love to try it again in with some age but it’s drinking beautifully right now

Henri Giraud Ratafia de Champagne Solera 90-16
Solera started in 1990 (and I assume ending in 2016). Raisins, fresh grapes, dried figs, candied orange and a hint of cacao. Beautiful palate and the sweetness is not sticking out. Well done.
Etter Poire Williams
Ripe pear on the nose. Smooth with just a small kick in the throat as it goes down.
Beautiful dinner in Paris.
Well made Vin Jaune really is something truly special!
Drinking really well. A wine that is both light (12% abv) and deep at the same time. Peppery spice, smoke and herbs. Red berries and a darker more Syrah like bramble fruit mixed together.
2021 Kruger-Rumpf Scheurebe bought at the suggestion from @David_Bu3ker when I visited the area 2 months back and tasted at the winery.
Shit this is tasty. Nice €15 pickup. Wish I had more.
Hundred Acre “Golden Hour” pinot, 2019. It’s kaleidoscopic, greatly shifting personalities as time goes by. Black tea, spices, primary fruits. Not a typical California pinot at all. I’m glad to have bought some, but not sure the value is there.
2015 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons
Still very youthful pale yellow. Nose is fresh, somewhat ripe and young with citrus, toasted nuts, ginger and crushed white pepper. Palate is ripe , toasty and spicy, I first thought this has for sure seen oak but apparently not. It has notes of seashells, roasted peanuts and lemon zest. Finishes medium length and somewhat smoky and toasty. I like a bit more freshness in my Chablis but nice wine nonetheless.

2019 Camille Thiriet Côte de Nuits Villages Les Vignottes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Nuits Villages (20/6/2023)
Reminded me of a new-school Grenache but one that I actually liked! Slightly cloudy, ruby red in colour. Loved the nose on this, so intoxicating and lifted with pretty red fruit. Unbelievably silky on the palate, had a lovely energy and tension that I’ll usually ascribe to whites rather than reds. Became more and more expressive with air. Definitely would recommend popping one now if you have any, no idea how this will age but absolutely delicious now. (93 pts.)
2015 Malartic-Lagraviere
Hesitated a bit to check in on the first of my three bottles, but no worries.
Deep and dark:
-in color a deep crimson ruby;
-on the nose deep savory mixed with fruit;
-first impression on the palate dark plum and current, with a stone & mineral chaser;
-aftertaste, warm lingering fruit.
Very recommended.
2020 Kirkland TI Point Sauvignon Blanc
Cheap but tasty
2020 Michel Rebourgeon Pommard 1er Cru Les Pezerolles
A Lyle wine, really enjoying this one.
$21 a pop and delicious

2021 Damiano Ciolli Cesanese di Olevano Romano Superiore Silene - Italy, Latium, Cesanese di Olevano Romano (6/21/2023)
pop and pour, and unexpected rush of red and blue fruits. Shows notes of depth and pepper similar to Syrah, and freshness of cinsault. This is cool and just absolutely tasty.

Gotta just roll with it sometimes!
Domaine du Tunnel Cornas 2014
Marcel Juge Vineyard, Cornas, N. Rhone
Drank this over two nights and day 2 was WOW!
DAY 1: PnP and it took 30 minutes in the glass for some funk to blow off and then aromas of cassis and herbs presented themselves faintly on the nose. The palate was fresh and complex with tastes of blackberry, cassis, violets, and black pepper. Full-bodied, but not heavy, with tannins that left their grip on the gums through the long, black pepper finish.
DAY 2: The nose was reticent on the first day, but on day 2 there were aromas of cherry, cassis, roasted meat, sanguine, and herbs. The palate was a show stopper on this wine. Fresh and lively with bold tastes of cherry cassis, violets, and black pepper. The grippy, peppery finish was just as long and wonderful as the first day.
This is the second wine I have had from Stephane Robert. The first was a 2016 Saint Peray which I also loved. I will definitely be buying whenever I see any Domaine du Tunnel wines!
Label damage was done by my cellar rack. These are large, heavy bottles. Almost as big as old Turley bottles.
