Oreo is quite busy tonight!

Ok, so this is weird. Your post displayed as a complete blank until I quoted it :flushed::face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I just edited the link

  • 1999 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan (5/19/2023)
Popped and poured from a .375. My experience with aged BDX is minimal, but that one was singing. Poured a beautiful garnet color, with some bricking around the rim. The nose is relatively muted, but what I could best describe as the smell of a wonderful old book, though not in a bad way. The palate was far more open, with hints of raspberries/strawberries, some cherry, finishing with a hint of pipe tobacco. Very well balanced, with a touch of pleasing acidity on the backend. I really enjoyed this and wish I had more.

Still have 07s and 05s around. Will dig a couple out and post notes. I think I still have a mag of 1976 Sauvion.

2019 DDC is jaw-droppingly good. @Keith_Levenberg and WK dropped a 97 on this wine and I’m inclined to agree

In Kinvara, County Galway, post pints at dinner, kids needed to sleep after arriving early this morning, so we went to the Eurospar downstairs for a bottle to put us down too.

2021 Cuvee Sainte Vierge CDP - :face_vomiting:

What a difference a few hours make… from lunch at Carla’s we are now in a nice and recent hotel in Torno. Aperitivo was gin and tonic for her and negroni for me. A single bottle for dinner and although I’m not a Ca’ Del Bosco fan, we order the Cuvée Prestige Edizione 44. Not bad. Crisp, citrus, mineral, dry as day. It’s a little short but super fresh and snappy. I might have written off this producer too soon.

Vince,
Have you had the '17? If so, how does it compare to the '19? Thanks in advance.

2014 Ch. Gloria

Reticent for the first two hours after opening. Opens up to traditional blackcurrants, oak and tannins. This might hold for longer, curious to see if there is an upside.

I haven’t had the 2017 but the 2018 is very nice, one of the most restrained ‘18s out there.

Starting to come into its own. The aromatics are wonderful, but it needs more palate development. The material is there.

Had the 2019 Failla Amity Hills Gamay this evening. Compared to their Bjornson Gamay, this is not the same class (but without that comparison it’s a fine rendition). It’s just that the Bjornson is one of the very best US Gamay’s, in my opinion.

2013 Ao Yun - from CT review

3 hr decant - which was sufficient.
Well, quite a change in 4 years since the last tasting. The really prominent capsicum is largely gone, or rather not at all dominant any more. Ripe dark berries, graphite, a little spice (this too is diminished) and some meaty flavors prevail. Overall much better integrated, much closer to more recent vintages, less exotic flavored ( this is a positive or negative depending on how you feel about other aspects of the wine). To me it had finally sorted itself out.
At maturity. Several years ahead of it (I’d guess at least 5) at this plateau. Went gangbusters with herbed rack of venison.
Score: 93. Relative to expectations: ++

This was last week, but I’m catching up Friday by Friday. The Clos du Marquis has been a mixed experience across a case. Some bottles have a musty air which I can’t remove, but others lose it either through doubledecant or just pop n pour. The ones that do reveal a deep intense mid palate of forest, mushrooms, and a dark fruit I can’t place. Delicious. The cru Cantera is a reliable winner…fruit and depth and nose and aftertaste which makes you want to just try a little more  an enjoyable Friday wind down sessions

2019 Michele Chiarlo Barbaresco Asili

Delicious, although it took five hours of air to get there at this point. Excited to follow this in the years to come. Diam30 cork.

I hear you. Many bottles benefit by flexibility and patience on the aeration time. Most bottles, on the other hand, I don’t even give them the chance to show this. Its not til day 2 or beyond (if there is one) that I get a glimpse and a feeling of “woulda, coulda, shoulda”.
