looks delicious
I opened a Realm Houyi 2015, which was excellent.
One of our BTG selections. Had a glass left after the evening service. Well, I couldn’t waste that, now, could I?
How was the Grande Colline? And vintage?
A nice nv Albert Lebrun grand cru brut. What are we celebrating? I don’t know. We woke up on a Friday, the World Cup is still going, and we’re in a fantastic host city.
The champagne has a little oily sweetness to the texture but not cloyingly so. Still a bit sweeter than I’d prefer. Green apple crossed with peach that softens the crispness; finish fades into a wet bready limestone finish that’s rather brief on the tongue but hangs from the uvula longer than intended like a Midwesterner trying to leave a party. Good QPR in my estimation if you’re wanting a champagne on a Friday in the middle of July or any month.
- Started well. Mousy finish
Sounds normal then!
• 2015 Fattoria Le Pupille Saffredi
Not one for those who are sensitive to oak. Otherwise, delightful.
From CT review:
About a half hour of air and that’s all this needed. Fabulous plum and black cherry on the nose, a fairly hefty dose of oak-induced vanilla and toasted clove, dried herbs. On the palate there is a rare roast beef taste that alludes to Sangiovese even though this is a Bordeaux blend. Very smooth tannins. Lovely.
2025 Gerard Boulay Sancerre “Chavignol”
First taste was like a smile. Soft, uplifting, simple in the most beautiful way. Became more dimensioned as time passed in the glass. Salty, chalky mineral, fuller mouthfeel. Fruit becoming more prominent but not a fruity wine. Obviously very young , but impressive right now. ~$40
Very Recommended
Birth year Krug smuggled into the labor and delivery wing to celebrate my first child. Hopefully in 30 years time she’ll be a Berserker posting an identical photo ITT
Congrats!!
Mazel tov! It’s funny how many of us have brought Champagne into the birthing room. ![]()
What was your call? same grape?
Nope
I need some Sangiovese practice.
