2014 The Hilt Pinot The Old Guard

In its prime drinking window. Perfumed nose, great mix of fruit and secondary forest characteristics, long finish.

Notes on the 18 Fourrier Gevrey?

2009, 10 and 11.

Jasper Morris talks about this in his Inside Burgundy podcast “My Favorite Wines for the Christmas Season.”

Not sure if you use Apple Podcasts, but the link below is time stamped to 56:30 where it’s discussed.

We had the wines in a none wine focused setup, so did not think too much about them. But overall it was well balanced despite it it’s ripe nature. The acidity was luckily there to support the fruit. Open and approachable :slightly_smiling_face: very enjoyable.

Roughly 2008-2011

We opened this a couple of nights ago and were surprised at how well this is still drinking.

Will there ever be a day when this bottling isn’t simply amazing? The bright red fruits with Fourrier are incomparable. Stunning!

I brought this 2010 Bachelet Corbeaux over to @Steve_McL tonight as a form of punishment. Thank you for smoking. Shame.

How was the Niellon? And, now that I’ve seen your Instagram, the Boillot?

I mentioned this issue to @brodie_thomson just the other day. Like licking an ashtray.

Yep- Brodie’s note made me pull one to check in. Real shame. I’ve never licked an ashtray, but I now have a sense of what it might be like. It must not have impacted all barrels as there are several very positive notes on CT. This is not an issue of needing air, or being more or less tolerant, it is a totally flawed and undrinkable wine.

Boillot was super duper. Niellon was grumpy.

So glad to have this wine back in the house. Thank you @Robert_Panzer

Just received my Palisades Canyon shipment and had to open a bottle to share with the group so they could try it. Everyone loved it and even with a short decant it showed well. I wish I could’ve had a longer decant on the wine so it could open up more but excitement took over and pop and pour won.

2021 Tenuta Tascante Ghiaia Nera Etna Rosso

100% Nerello Mascalese, imo the island’s grape crown jewel and aka the Sicilian Pinot Noir. Tart red berries, volcanic earthiness, tannic under layer, a bit of bitterness from stalk and skin, and some green veggies. Contemplative with a fun side. Not for everyone, but I can get nicely along with. A motivated pairing with an excellent home-crafted longganisa-sauced pappardelle.

My first Gruner Veltliner: 2022 Hoppler Gruner Veltliner

Very nice! I got freshly cut grass, Asian pear, and lime in my nose. Sort of tasted like those things too, although not particularly grassy. Had some minerality, although the distinguishing note was a pleasant finish of mild pepper. Quite pretty - quite thin - very delicious! Opened on a whim as I have wanted to try this variety for a while. Unsure if the food pairing was accurate (or if a food picture belongs to this thread) but I wanted the wine and the dinner was neutral enough. According to girlfriend it is “like drinking from a rocky creek while someone cracks salt upstream.”
