What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

How was this drinking? I’m never sure when is a good time to open them.

I thought the 21 Etelois was fabulous, and I prefer this vintage to the 2020 rendition. The overwhelming comment was that it was explosively aromatic and that feature seemed to grow with air over a few hours. It was, sadly, the first red we finished. The wine has a more red-fruited profile with fine velvety and slightly sweet tannins, and a little wild side with some orange peel, macerated strawberry, and angostura bitters. It should age well. This was my 2nd bottle.

@Zachgoldstein @AlecS @gavin.f @MadsW Thanks guys, we had a ton of fun. This was one of the most enjoyable dinner/tastings I’ve been to in a long time. Lots of excitement and the wines showed well over a big communal dinner. Doesn’t get much better…

It’s in a good spot. I did a popping pour. It definitely got better after a few hours if you like the Aubrert style , it’s big you’ll like this

Re-tasted the 2022 late last year over 3 days. So delicious in day 3. I’m kinda high on this vintage.

2023 Spier Sauvignon Blanc. Bog standard except I swear I detected coffee notes on the palate. Absolute first time I’ve tasted such a thing in a white wine.

2022 Gradis’Ciutta Collio Friulano
A wine we met on our recent trip to Friuli and found locally for ~$23. Flowery fruit meets nutty minerals. A great anytime wine. Enjoyed on its own and very versatile with food. Killer last glasses tonight with our pan seared oven finished cod in lemon butter sauce,

Napa Cabs don’t get much better than this! Tannins are fully integrated, silky smooth finish

Definitely the Le Piane style, and great for early drinking. Tart red cherry, hibiscus, menthol.

Proper hydration is critical when one works late…

Funny side note. My wife and I are traveling to Portugal this weekend for 10 days. I thought we were leaving late Saturday night from Miami. I clicked on the email from the airline to pick our meals, and it hit me like a ton of bricks that our flight out is actually late Friday night, from Miami. We are in Orlando. Imagine my wife’s shock, hearing me tell her hey honey, remember, I told you we have all day to pack and relax and then sleep in, well we actually have to leave tomorrow now. Oh, and the dogs need to be kenneled earlier, lol. Let’s just say it is very quiet in the household tonight.

Good to note. Happens to be 1 of 4 bottles of US wines that I own and holding on to.

Brought these 2 to a large dinner party, where everything else was napa cab and pinot (kongsgaard, shafer, ashes & diamonds, etc). The extradimensional was the star and had folks asking for a top up even before they finished their glass. Two friends literally fighting over the last pour. I barely got a sip but was happy to share as I’ve got 10 more bottles.

Oh no, poor Alfert has to go on his 10-day luxury trip to Europe a day early. The horror!

(How was the wine?)

You don’t know my pains!!!

I’m actually pleasantly surprised by this showing last night. I had the 2015 back in May and was really disjointed. This one is starting to show some meaty and savory tones that I liked a lot. Definitely not a blockbuster, but maybe it’s turning the corner into something better.

I love those old Cordier St. Juliens. Just ordered some more Talbot from the 80’s

2022 Domaine Lamy-Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet

Off the wine list at Homestead Cottage in the Doolin countryside. A generous Chassagne-Montrachet consistent with the warm vintage. Dense and concentrated, yet with enough cut to pull it off. Ripe yellow fruit and citrus, fragrant florals, flinty minerals and a bit of oak. Needs more time to fully integrate. If I had more in the cellar, I would wait on these for a bit.

Yeah, Warren.
I had some '89 Talbot I enjoyed for quite a while. I have some '09: I know they are different but we will see.
Enjoy yours!

lol the trip from hell, now we will be a day late! Flight just got bumped 5 hours. Found out while on high-speed to Miami. Luckily, my big sis lives in the Gables, so in the courtyard now drinking what she popped…

When in Rome.

Both pretty forgettable, sorry to say 🫩.

The Ladoix had a really amazing nose, but the palate - short, acidic, clipped and tannic with nearly no discernable flavors. Bummer. 84 points

I bought the 2006 Marachale based on what I read here:

JF Mugnier NSG 1er Clos de la Maréchale vertical, 2004-2019 and then some — Lots of rah rahs for the ‘06.

Nothing to write home about, nice nose but flat and dull palate, slightly better palate than the previous bottle. 86 points.

Might have been a better night for vodka shots.

Trying to duck the ‘Itoldyaso’ eggs that @MChang is throwing at me for trying to find ‘bargains’ in Burgundy.
