Pretty sure someone recommended this specific Egly here, but IMO you rarely go wrong…
Brought these two to a blind tasting last night.
2018 Labet was amazing. Hard to find more intense wines. The Trapet did not show a lot. Might have suffered a bit from being served very late, where smell/taste fatigue was a thing, but just felt a bit anonymous (but it was actually also hiding when I opened it before going there)
2017 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin
Drinking very well! It shows some evolution and complexity but still plenty fruit. Went very well with chicken and funnel chanterelles.
I will post a more formal note when I finish the bottle, but I have to say I am pretty impressed by what I’m seeing right now with this wine. I have a six pack so wanted to check in on a young one, not sure I’ve had a young LLC before. Definitely have had some glorious mature ones, however. This 2012 is just a big blast of Cabernet fruit, really impressive.
2014 Karl Lawrence CS (Napa).
Excellent. Benefitted from 2-3 hrs of air.
The idea of enjoying a young LLC is alien to me. I have a 1996 that snarls at me when I pass.
True true, but you are a more educated and refined gentleman where I am a bit Neanderthal.
Revisiting this tonight and for the price this is a very good bottle! Delicate Grenache with plenty of red berries but not candied. Good mineral backbone. Lovely sipper.
Yum-eee.
Perfectly mature and a joy to drink. Gentle touch of leafiness and then lots of chocolate and plums mixed with a iron earth note. Tannins are integrated and has enough acidity to keep it fresh. The 2007 character shows up in it being more of a middle wieght and lacking a bit of depth and power, no complaints from me on that score. It is true to the vintage and is very expressive and delicious. Not need to be kept any longer
my thoughts exactly!
A departure from the norm in this Burgundy and Oregon-centric house. Evidence that we’re not one-note after all! Other than a slight slant of mid palate acid, a thoroughly enjoyable drink.
