1973 Bouchard P&F Pommard…not sure when I bought this but was looking for a CdP and figured I’d open it and if dead do the CdP. Nose of leather, dried beef, cranberry, red plum, and a hint of coffee grounds. Palate is red fruit, crisp acid, bay leaf, and an iodine note. Far from dead at 51 years old. Solid showing.
That’s good to read, Phil. I’ve only had the Droin bottlings, and really enjoyed them. Any of the other producers efforts of particular note? I have a Louis Michel 2020 in the cellar.
The 2021 Louis Michel was drinking great but youthful obviously. I didn’t buy it in 2020 and I’m wondering why. I got Les Clos instead. La Chablisienne has the Château Grenouilles which is another stellar example. I now realize that outside of these 3 producers I haven’t had any others. This might be why I’ve never had a bad one .
Awesome!
What’s the story behind the bottle?
Casual night with my wife and kid watching college football and just relaxing.
The kid made some excellent Old Fashioneds with Oban 14, then “demanded” a mature Bordeaux. I’ve created a monster.
The 1998 Langoa is pretty solid, lovely core of red fruits interspersed with the darks, but lacking the next degree of complexity to make it something to chase down. I have four remaining, will let them sleep more to see what happens.

Humble request: more wife and kid, less feet
I cropped the pic a bit, it showed more of my chiseled cycling calves! I didn’t want too many folks swooning!
Retirement plan?
Just happened to have that link handy?
I wanted a big bottle for this occasion. Last year I went through what K&L and JJ Buckley had available. Most of it was relatively young but this one looked interesting. I did the same with my daughter’s wedding last year and came up with a 5L 1996 Cantemerle. That was a real score, great wine.
more wife and kid, less feet
Rex Ryan disagrees.
I reckon the 1996 the best Cantemerle of the decade.
