Opened this in 375 tonight. The nicest Chianti I have had in quite a while. This has years to go to mellow out some more.
Love Felsina.
2019 Samuel Billaud Chablis Premier Cru Montmains
A very nice wine. More fruit emphasis than the usual Chablis that I drink. Lemon still dominates, but in a forceful strong fruity delivery, not the edgy citrusy presentation. Other fruits as well, but still very focused and energetic and not flabby at all. Minimal oak to my palate. A bit of an eye opener for me. (I put it in the fridge just a couple of hours before dinner which prevented over- chilling which helped the showing I think)
Very Recommended
2021 Domaine Bernard Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet
Fresh, classic Chablis nose, with nice ripe acidity, saline finish. Very nice wine today.
2010 Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste
Mid weight, ultra pure cassis and well integrated oak. Yes it’s young but it has wonderful balance and fine texture, so that it’s very quaffable today.
2015 Ceretto Barolo
Quite forward, violets, anise and spice. New school style, starting to lose its youthful sterness.
A rare weeknight for me drinking wine. We were interviewing a surgeon and I wanted a red wine for a sunny evening. 2011 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Griffe du Marquis fit the bill perfectly. It’s delicious, yet still young with room to improve. Cherries and dark berries, with licorice and an herbal note. Structured, with good cut and fine tannins. This was a perfect warm weather red tonight.
2017 PYCM Pernand-Vergelesses Les Combottes.
Drinking great. It’s softened and deepened a little since I last had it a few years ago.
Impromptu wine dinner
for a visit from Dave Dryoff along with Jonathan Bramm from the local denver group Dave’s 2002 tempier was the WOTN
Terrible first tasting note! Come back and try again!
La Mission Haut-Brion (2013)
Slightly underwhelming, which shouldn’t have surprised me given the vintage. Dark fruit, tobacco, earth, and spice. A good wine that simply isn’t a good value.
Could be understatement of the year right there! This wine should have been epic. Welcome to teh board, look forward to your posts on non TCA compromised wines.
Ha! Been cheering this wine since the 2018 was $10 at Costco…the 2022 was $13 here in Idaho a couple weeks ago.
One of the best QPRs ever.
I’ve been trying to clean them out, though it appears they have an endless supply.
Not true…every year I buy a case or two in July, pour it freely for friends and family and by August its out of stock at my house and Costco…the steward always tells me its one of the first to go from the steward at S. 4th in Seattle to the one at Meridian in Idaho.
Vacation set from the last few days. Everything drinking well. Labet’s 2018 Fleur is amazing right now, no need to age it any further really.
Drinking pretty well for a 35 year old cru bourgeois. Mostly tertiary but there is a bit of plummy fruit hanging on. Texture is silky with just enough tannin left to clean the palate.
Loads of crushed seashell tidal pool and citrus. These wines always hit for me and the 2017 village is in a great spot.
Felt like living life in the fast lane, so opted for a game of Schueller-Roulette. A day on the mouse-tracks. Well — I won today. Vibrant nose of spices, honey and candied orange peel with a whiff of VA. The rest follows with a good acidity still. Candied almonds and yellow fruits. Late harvest so also a bit of botrytis. Clocks in at 15,5%. Gonna sit and be enjoyed with cheese over the next few days.
