Opened this 2017 Belle Pente Murto Vineyard last evening. Really nice wine, first glass to last.
My two remaining bottles of Kosta Browne, this and a bottle of Cohn Vineyard, are remnants from an earlier phase in my wine journey. I had a good 6-7 year run with KB, and tapped out around the second private equity sale. This producer has always been divisive but I did enjoy the wines in their youth. They never seemed intended to make old bones, and this bottle confirmed it for me. Baked cherry, stewed plum, some clove and baking spice on the nose. This is disjointed and unpleasant, with the remaining fruit, acid and tannins fighting with one another. Like them or not, I did feel that these bottles were saying something definitive but this wine has lost the plot.
Last bottle of a half-case purchased on release. This wine has traded the steely intensity of its youth for a rounded, mature, not-quite-honeyed white fruit profile. Lovely with cheese and crackers on the patio in the aftermath of this morningâs showers. Perfect accompaniment to some Andrew Bird tunes. Better showing than the previous bottle a few years ago.
2019 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Never had this cuvee before but I expected more based on its reputation. Its allright, but its drinking like a good village. Not sure time will help this as it doesnt have much in the way of concentration, structure or acidity.
Nice and which vintage? I was planning to open my '21 DI CO later this year, but recent CT reviews has me thinking otherwise (lay down and hold).
2019, delicious and a bit young
I loved the 21 i popped a few months ago but can obviously use more age
2021 Dauvissat Le Forest with lobster nigiri
Major yum
DiCo is stylistically straight up my alley. Love the stuff!
Yep - definitely happens from time to time. Sometimes I also get into a weird space where even objectively good bottles seem meh. Luckily it always passes.
Congrats on the new spot up north by the way. Saw your vid on Insta, seems like a positive change.
Birthday BBQ yesterday evening
Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin Vielles Vignes 2020 - very approachable at the moment, very fruity with red fruits and a touch of blueberry. Nice value this
Tronquoy 2019 - not doing it for me at the moment, Iâve had a lot better young bordeauxâs at this price point and below and I donât think its because this has shut down (it also had plenty of air). Iâll tuck the rest of the case away and hope for better in a few years time
Lynch Bages 2009 - still brooding and quite closed at the moment, dark fruits and liquorice, smooth and rich. There are better 2009s for drinking now, but I think in another 10 years this will be a star.
Pegau ChĂąteauneuf-du-Pape CuvĂ©e RĂ©servĂ©e 2010 - really brilliant, everyoneâs favourite of the night. Popped and poured as I wasnât sure weâd need a 4th bottle and it drank beautifully right from the start. I donât find any funk in this, lovely fruits, a touch of pepper, tannins are integrated and finishes with subtle dried fruits.
Thanks for the TN on LB 2009 - I have some and was tempted to pop a bottle.
Patrick Corbineau - Touraine 1989
Still young and vibrant.
Fallen leaves, red berries, tobacco, slight brett and pepper.
Solid acidity and nice fruity core. Still a good red ruby red color with little sediments. Such a good bottle and while less complex itâs somehow more alive than the 1989 Lenoir I had last autumn.
Ferme de la Sansonniere - Fouchardes 2009
Honey and marzipan.
Hot summer in the Loire and therefore a decent level of residual sugar. The acidity is stepping back a little and Iâm wondering how long I can keep these, so Iâm going to drink up. My favorites must still be the more recent vintages.
I think this the best Muscat that I have tasted. Incredibly concentration, but remarkably balanced with abundant acidity. Next level.
2009 Rivers-Marie Summa Old Vines Pinot Noir.
How did that show?
