I don’t drink a lot of CdP these days, but Charvin was always my favorite.
I don’t think you have enough shellfish on that! jk - looks amazing. How is the 05 tondonia doing these days?
Really, really good. The way it evolved with air, I suspect it will improve for years. I cross-posted my tasting note here.
irst time trying this producer and very impressed, SA wines are really terrific value
- 2022 Savage Wines Follow the Line - South Africa, Western Cape (7/4/2024)
92% Cinsault and 8% Syrah; 50% whole-bunch fermentation. Pretty and lifted aromatics with sweet, but not quite candied red fruit. Good freshness and concentration. Reminded me of the Comando G style that’s going for purity and transparency of fruit (and I liked this better than most Comando Gs that I’ve tried). Another great value. (92 pts.) - 2022 Savage Wines White Blend - South Africa, Western Cape (6/4/2024)
75% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Semillon. Made in a serious style with a reductive nose and an impressive weight on the palate. Ripe citrus fruit with honey and elderflower notes, and a nice waxy texture. Very impressive for the price point. (92 pts.)
Interestingly the Vaudieu was much more integrated and smooth initially. The Charvin benefited from time in the decanter, so perhaps needs a few more years
How was the '21 Jamet? Any ripeness issues?
I tend to drink them with more age. The last three I’ve opened were '99, '01 and '04. It’s been a while though.
No ripeness issues, but not giving a ton right now. Enjoyed it, but one of the weaker young Jamets I’ve had.
Wow great stuff! What was the Jamet 2021 like? Felt the weaker vintage or?
Funny, I was thinking too much rice on that dish!
That sounds like someone didn’t have enough…
Yes!! Looove Savage! Follow the line is my favorite. If you can get your hands on the 2018, go for it. Or we meet in Montreal at some point in the future and I’ll uncork one !
4 Bottles, 4 days; All good
- 2020 Domaine Billaud-Simon Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru (4/9/2024)
Vivid and electric balance of ripe lemon and dry stones, walking that tightrope of concentrated and delicate. Good stuff. (93 points)

- NV Nathalie Falmet Champagne Cuvée Le Val Cornet - France, Champagne (4/9/2024)
Light lemon and crisp acidity, all in balance. Delicious and easy (92 points)
- 2013 Domaine Dujac Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru (4/6/2024)
Remarkable spice-perfumed nose leaps from the glass at first pour. (This from a a guy who is all about the palate usually, not the nose).
Initially reticent, tasting of underbrush, briar, soil and stems. Bit of coconut(?).
With airtime and warming, dark fruit peeks out, balancing and welcoming another sip, and another after that.
Give it time to warm up and wake up and be rewarded. Great stuff-it makes me want to try this from a riper vintage. (94 points)
- 2009 Joseph Drouhin Griotte-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru (4/6/2024)
Dark, smells of diapers, mint and funky soil (in a good way).
Savory more than fruit at first, licorice, earthy and salty. Black cherries emerging with warmth and airtime to yield a rich glass. Med-grippy tannins and low-med acid. 13% Alc.
A serious and savory Burg, in contrast to my expectations of a sun-ripe fruit-forward glass. The one you marry, not the one you date in your feckless youth.
Good stuff, fine to open now (with food) but plenty of stuffing for future positive development. (94 points)

Inspired by @Phil_T_r_o_t_t_e_r I opened a bottle of this yesterday
Sadly it was a disappointment, leafy and a bit green and clearly marked by the vintage character. My most underwhelming Magdelaine so far. Lacking depth and fruit and not much pleasure
That sucks.I had an okay one a couple of weeks ago and then this good one last week. I was looking at WB and CT and it seems that some people find the greenness in it and others don’t. I wonder if it’s purely context/taster related or if bottle evolution plays a part in that. I’ve had some green wines (Joguet amongst them) mellow out over time but that’s normally when tertiary characteristics are more prominent and hide the vegetal notes. And these Magdelaine 2002 don’t seem to have much tertiary notes to them. I’ve got 2 remaining and I’ll see if now that you mentioned “green” it sticks out to me !
Robert-Denogent Vers Cras 2021
Pure, bright, and tight. This needs to see a LOT of air or better some time lying down. But it’s all there: plenty of citrus, hints of unripe pear, good chewiness, bracing acidity and decent finish that gets longer as we get to the last glass of this. Good stuff.
Really enjoyed the Clos du Val sauvignon blanc… it’s a different clone of sauvignon b and it’s more aromatic and not limey like most CA sauvignon blancs.
2022 Tensley Syrah Colson Canyon.
First impressions, still one of my local favorite SBC syrah each vintage. I have a few vintages cellared but I do like drinking them young. I feel like they’ve incrementally tapered down on the new oak % since 2020 (wish they provided tech sheets on the website). 2020 is still my favorite to date but this is awesome and look forward to finishing tonight with dinner and see how it evolves.
2022 Inama Soave Classico…2 story lines here…#1, my longtime go-to local guy for wines over the past 4 decades or so,finally called it a day and announced he was retiring and closing up shop No indication that someone else wd be taking over his store.Went over to pay our respect and buy some wine for the last time…Dana always had a nice selection of Italian wines. #2, A neighbor and close friend, who loves white wines, lost her beloved dog, he died at age 13, complications of diabetes, had gone blind and finally gave up the ghost…Many’s the time I wd go over and give him his insulin shot when no one else was available to do so…We invited her over to have dinner and a glass or so with us, knowing this wd be rough few days for her, and yes, we enjoyed the the wine
