Well, that wasn’t a complete waste of time!! Well done and a few questions if you can:

  • How was that 10 Clusel-Roch?
  • 99 Balthazar Cornas?
  • 79 Magdelaine?
  • 08 Lassaigne?

Actually, when are all the TNs coming ?

Agree would be interested to read the TNs! Was tempted by a '99 Balthazar on Idealwines the other week but it got bid up beyond my comfort level

Rene Balthazar was sadly faulty. Heavy unpleasant metallic note and nothing else. Tried to decant it, but little did it help.

Magdelaine I don’t know. Plenty of fruit and a lots of spice. Evolved, but in a good way. The problem was it also had a very strong cellar smell. I would normally call TCA on it, but the fruit was intact and beautiful, so not sure, but in the end it was too distracting. If it didn’t have that note I would probably have preferred it over 1988 Barton.

Clusel-Roch was really good. Needed a ton of air, but very red fruited and well balanced. Flowers and pepper over meaty notes. My only bottle, but if I had more I would certainly wait another 5+ years. If I find another at the same price I will certainly buy it.

Lassaigne was good. Was interesting to taste it next to an entry level bottle with some bottle age (Disgorged 2019). Two very similar wines, but you certainly notice a completely different concentration in the 2008. For me it was in a good stage with some nice oxidative notes. If it is worth current prices I am less sure.

Holy Cow, 19 bottles for 4! In one night. And some really great ones too!

You sir, wine Berserker of the Year award!!!

@ToddFrench we need to add more wines to the Highland trips. Lasse is kicking our butts!

Actually 21 with the Champagne
But it was 4 + me

Opened 2016 J.J. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett last night. Still with its youthful charm as when first released but in its dumb phase. This needs a lot more time.

For a good price in the Mosel. Maybe a mistake. Very tight (duh!).

Hopefully the decanter helps.

I have a 2016, not touching it anytime soon.

Yeah I have a six pack of 16 and 17 before it went kiste only in 18.

2000 Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron
This is ready to rock, lovely silky mouthfeel, ageing cassis but bright and delicious. This is how I like my Pauillacs.

2018 LAN Crianza
2015 LAN Reserva
2005 LAN Gran Reserva

It’s always nice to try an extended Rioja vertical. You really get a sense of the house style. The last time I did this was a 2012, 2010, and 2008. The LAN Reserva continues to be an excellent value, while the Gran Reserva has the stones to be a birth year wine.

1993 Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace

We took my father out for his 79th birthday but snagged this one from his cabinet on the way out the door. Perfect cork and decanted for sediment only, it was still in great shape. Tannins were almost completely resolved but there was plenty of acidity. Very enjoyable with the ribeye.

Never had this one! How was it?

Silly boy…we’ve done those quantities as well! And you complained we had ‘too many open’ and it was ‘wasteful’!

Same; I sold all of mine.
