Took a bottle of '19 Pierre Boisson Grands Charrons to lunch yesterday at Quality Bistro. Great bottle, a bit of reduction, but showing white orchard and some tropical notes and great minerality. This is better than both the '18 and '20 version. While this is a step up from the Bourgogne blanc, the Bb is a great value as is the Bourgogne rouge.
It’s definitely not Bedrock , but it’s quite “delicious.” I’m still not sure how this found its way into my cellar and it’s not in my CT. Full bodied, supple dark red fruit dominates, black cherry, slight menthol, a little black tea and some (quality) tannin grip still present. What it lacks in Pomerol elegance it makes up for in pleasing drinkability. A drinker, not a thinker.
My kind of Syrah. This is drinking beautifully right now.
It really opened up after an hour.
Soft, elegant, dark fruit, and a finish that lasts and lasts.
We haven’t opened an Arcadian in a long time, and I was reminded of why I became obsessed with these wines.
The Baron was awesome. Great drinking young Bordeaux. Ruby red color, red and black fruits, cherry, raspberry, rhubarb, blackberry. It has the amazing acidity that I find in many wines from this vintage.
The '18 VV was not doing it for me. Seemed a bit advanced/oxidative, very sweet, no elegance. Maybe the vintage? These were no-brainers back in the day when you could get them for $60, but this is not a $200 Champagne IMO.
I love Ramey wines and I’ve enjoyed countless bottles but in fairness…this was totally shot. It was under natural cork (I’m not sure if 2011 was the last year for that before going to Diam, Bueks might know). I’ve read that sometimes these ‘black’ chards can come back to life with some time in the decanter, I tried that but there was no bringing er back from the dead.
2015 Domaine Joël Champet Côte-Rôtie La Viallière - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie (2/2/2024)
Agree with the negative notes. There's either bottle variation going on, or This is a total miss in 15. And not like Champet. Ripe, but hard. Angular and hollow. Just no balance and no desire to drink this if I'm being honest.
2007 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses. An ex-chateau library release of mature Chinon, what a treat! Just loved this. From CT review.
Gorgeous smell of burnt hay, red berries, very light touch of pepper, earth, lead pencil. Tannins just melted down to a supple, refined maturity. Fully mature but going nowhere fast — you could keep this another decade without fear. Subtle, refined, pure class, and available for a song. Unbelievable value.
