Occasionally,the skies open up, the sun shines down and you sip a wake-up call wine. For me it was Clos St. Jacques. Knocked me out.

2018 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Vieille Vigne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (12/17/2023)
Ok, bear with me...Nose of shellfish/oyster shells, scallops, a touch of tidal funk...whaaa?!? Resolving into dried apples and again...oysters somehow and yet... not bad?
Palate of intense savory black fruit, cherry and brambles/stems, med+ tannins and med+ acid plus reduction/gunflint. 13.5% Alc.
My notes don't do this justice but it was a remarkable, complex and delicious step up from the also-tasty Moines. A wow wine with upside potential given time, and this from a ripe, let us say "lesser" vintage.
Someone just moved my cheese...So THIS is what Clos St. Jacques can be. (94 points)
