After the Gamay, I am trying a second wine from Domaine des Abeilles d’Or. If you’re wondering how I came to purchase this:
I’m not a Viogner fan. Well except in small doses in my Côte-Rôties.
Very expressive nose of honeydew melon, peach, honeysuckle, wildflowers and almond paste. The palate is Viognier-y: slightly oily, missing acidity to my taste and rather flat. It ain’t got no zing. The alcohol is sticking out and the medium finish happens on bitterness. I think even a Viognier aficionado would find that this doesn’t feel integrated; the pieces just don’t seem to fit together. Not for me.
Edit: I did a search on CT’s My Cellar for Viognier. This is the only bottle that came up.
