Meh.
This wine sucks.
Gosh what a disappointment. The 2016 is smokin. And I’m generally a fan of this plateau Pomerol. Perhaps marred by the vintage, I find it hot. One dimensional as well.

How was it? I’ve only got one so wondering how long I should hold out
This was my first of 3. Decant for sure at least an hour. Very nice wine. I’m going to have another over the new year holiday. It can age longer too
Yes that is disappointing for sure
Famiglia Anselma Barolo del Comune di Serralunga 2016, Piemonte, Italy
Fresh and acidic cranberry, red cherry, orange. Leather weakens with airing. Refreshing notes of mint, mothballs. Various kinds of spices.
Do not have a body strong enough to balance so many unpolished tannins. Bitter finish. By no means a joyful thing to have it, at least now.
Had a small party with non-wine type friends who drink more than my wine friends! All of these were very good.

After the Gamay, I am trying a second wine from Domaine des Abeilles d’Or. If you’re wondering how I came to purchase this:
Very expressive nose of honeydew melon, peach, honeysuckle, wildflowers and almond paste. The palate is Viognier-y: slightly oily, missing acidity to my taste and rather flat. It ain’t got no zing. The alcohol is sticking out and the medium finish happens on bitterness. I think even a Viognier aficionado would find that this doesn’t feel integrated; the pieces just don’t seem to fit together. Not for me.
Edit: I did a search on CT’s My Cellar for Viognier. This is the only bottle that came up.
Xige Jade Songyun Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot 2019, Ningxia, China (18.75 cl)
Green. Pyrazine notes like green pepper. No concentration. Tastes like a poorly made Chilean Cabernet in my stereotype… Regret buying it even at a low cost of $1.5.
My last 1995 Lanessan:

I just found two of these in my cellar. I was going to send them off to auction with a bunch of other stuff, but the estimate was too low. It sounds like that was appropriate.
Cheers,
Warren
These were auction buys for me so provenance is questionable. I’m wondering if it’s getting tired or if mine aged a little prematurely…
Alone for lunch… I figured beef cheeks and Sociando would cheer me up. And? It did. The creamy polenta aux lardons didn’t hurt either.
I’ve had this 2002 a few times now and the nose exceeds the palate. But what a nose. It’s everything I want out of this: full on sauvage savouriness. It’s leather, pyrazines, tobacco and some earthiness. Damn. The palate is fine but lets the nose down. It lacks a little concentration. Still, it worked. I finished the lunch with a baked apple and Armagnac. Life is sweet.
Living la vida loca. Well done, sir!
Such a beauty! Ouillé Savagnin. Plenty of fruit and body, but carried by notes of lemon, salt and a high(!) acidity. Showing a bit of nuts and baking spice in the background.
Yea I prefer their Savagnins.
