What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 1)

Ceritas 2011 Porter Bass Chardonnay
Very nice

Liquid Farm 2012 White Hill… Great!

2003 Ridge Dusi Ranch Late Harvest Zinfandel

2011 Ceritas Pinot Noir Costalina. This is my first wine from Ceritas, and I have WB to thank for turning me on to such a beautiful pinot. The chards are on deck.

2006 Corliss Columbia valley red wine

2008 Alysian Wines Floodgate Vineyard Rock Hill Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley (Gary Farrell the winemaker.) I have loved the 2007 vintage of this (huge aromatics) and hadn’t yet tried the 2008. (In fact I was confused and thought I was taking along the same vintage I initially liked so much.) I have read that the 2008 is Gary’s preference of the two vintages as it is more restrained–perhaps more Burgundian–than the exuberant 2007.
I took this to share at a wine tasting with turducken. I felt it would pair well with turkey and duck. It was lovely and received many compliments. I will happily open my remaining bottle another day and will also look forward to seeing how my remaining 2007 Floodgate wines are developing. I had my first bottle of the 2007 in 2010 and a second one in August 2013. Three more remain.

93 P. Livera Chapelle Chambertin.

2003 Radio Coteau La Neblina. A touch sharp at first, but settled down after about an hour and is really enjoyable right now.

2010 Hatzidakis Winery Assyrtiko Cuvée No.15
Old gold in colour. Chalk on the nose, lemon, some spice, rockmelon and pineapple. Oily, unctuous texture, with good weight, roundness and density. Good acids, in balance, citrus on palate. Reasonably complex and relatively long, a bit of an alcohol burn on back palate (14.5% alc on label). A food wine, went well with roasted eggplant. Drinking well now, probably not for longer term cellaring. An interesting wine, typically from 70+ year old pre-Phylloxera Assyrtiko vines in Santorini, Greece. I have had several vintages of this wine and this is one of the better ones. 89.

Alan, how was the Livera drinking?

2005 Carlisle Dry Creek Petite Sirah

My last bottle of 1997 Havens Bourriquot. Drinking beautifully now, aromatic with resolved tannins.

I’ve sadly consumed all of my bottles of this wine, but have fond memories of it. I’ve got a few other Alysians from 2007 and 2008 in the cellar, so it’s good to hear that they’re generally developing nicely.

Sounds wonderful. I had the 2003 rendition last year and found it to be exceptional, if not still youthful. It’s really just too bad we no longer have this amazing winery, which was one of the few out there producing non-spoof wines of great character that were both widely available and realistically priced in the steroid era.

As for me, Pobega’d a bottle of 2012 Ancillary Pinot

2012 Ancillary Cellars Pinot Noir Sun Chase Vineyard

Popped and poured, moderate ruby/purple. Initially somewhat refrained aromatically and shows red fruits along with an impression of minerals. With additional air, the fruit evolves into a darker character and hints of spice begin to appear alongside a nice lifted herbaceous note. Medium body. Flavors of cherry and stone fruits on the palate along with more minerals, and spice from oak…perhaps a touch of iodine with a bit of heat that lingers on the moderate-plus close. And while the tannins do leave an impression on the finish, it’s one that’s just oh so soft…liquid silk in this bottle. This is a very nice Pinot Noir, and one which is light enough to appease those with a more euro-centric palate while still appeasing the CA crowd expecting more fruit. Both palates will agree on the exceptionally smooth mouthfeel. A delicious Pinot, will be even better within 3-5+ years.

2009 Kutch Falstaff. Will be with leftover turkey dinner tonight.

My last remaining bottle of Bourriquot is the 2003. I agree Alex the demise of Havens is quite sad.

When I sold the wine a few accounts did well with the brand but for some reason getting placements in accounts was a challenge.

2012 Unmarked Code Seven from Passaggio Wines. It is a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir made by Cynthia Cosco with 13.9 ABV. Tight as a drum when first opened but it’s slowly fleshing out. Feminine in style with black raspberry notes and some kitchen spice. I get some hints of sasparilla but Carrie says I’m dreaming it. She gets hints of black tea. 5% of the bottle price goes to the families of fallen police officers. For those of you not familiar with Cynthia, she left a career in law enforcement to pursue her interest in wine and wine making.

2003 Weingut Graben-Gritsch Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Schön

Took a flyer on a few from JJB and it is quite good, went well with Lemon Chicken.

2008 Pegau…funkadelic and a lot of [bullshit.gif]
