What BEER are you drinking? (Part 1)

Who kidnapped bud. All this modern times love!

When’s the last time you saw a negative note on anything from Bud?

he really didn’t like modern times in 2015.

Alpine Beer Co. Singled Out W/Mosaic 6.1% ABV 100% Mosaic hopped.

I love these Singled Out series of beers. The Citra was fantastic and I loved that they showcased one with Equinox. This was literally put on while I was in the pub so its beyond super fresh. It has that wonderful dank fragrance on the nose of very ripe tropical fruit. The flavor profile on this shows peach, apricot and ripe melon. The mouth is soft and finishes bone dry with a nice berry note that lingers on the finish.

Highly recommended,

Cheers,

Bud

Sounds really good, Bud! But where’s tha haze, man?!?

To Øl Black Maria - A lot more IPA than Black but very good, double IPA wrapped in a nice deep brown black package. A dried apricot soaked in roasted malt. Excellent beer. Galaxy, Centennial, Columbus and Cascade @ 8.1%.

Modern Times Orderville IPA. 7.2% ABV. Mosaic and "other dank " hops added according to the label.

I really don’t know what to say. This trilogy of seasonal one offs, Floating World, Hooloomooloo and Orderville are simply a complete 360 from what I have ever had from MT. These can’t be west coast IPAs, they are too juicy, too soft, too low on the cursed IBU charts and are just way too flavorful. I could smell this when I popped the cap, so wonderfully dank and juicy. It is just ripe peach, tangerine, papaya and mango juice in a glass. The body is super soft and balanced. I don’t get it, really I don’t, where the hell did these come from, the east coast ?

Highly Recommended,

Bud

keene is hazy!

2012 3f Kriek. Really really good. We had an 04 dom rose next to it and they actually had similar profiles of berries and sweetness. The beer is in a great spot and can probably age for another few years easily

Nice!

So, Bud, it appears that we are on parallel tracks as I had all three of these this past week (along with the new release of City of the Dead). I could not agree more that these are fabulous beers. I think you liked the Hooloomooloo better than I, but that’s a stylistic matter I’m sure. I really liked the Booming Rollers. Do you know if they released a new City of the Sun?

Cheers, and thanks for all the notes!

Howard

City of the Sun is done for now Howard. Booming rollers took its place

Got it. .thanks Charlie

Drinking Hair of the Dog Blue Dot. The only thing consistent about this beer for me is its inconsistency. Current batch tastes like ass, with no pine or citrus notes; just dominated by flat malt and some bitterness.

6 or 7 years back, this was one of my favorite DIPAs, then it went through a couple of bad years, then rebounded and was great. Back to bad years, imho.

Firestone Walker Luponic Distortion Revolving Hop Series #001 IPA, 5.9% no hop bill listed or available.
This is a very cool new program from FW. Basically every 90 days they will release a new recipe in this series utilizing the same base beer and playing with a wide variety of hops both traditional and new experimental varieties. The roll out and press literature for this new program that I was able to see was very impressive to say the least, needless to say the hype on this has been very high. The first thing that grabbed my attention was that the bottles I bought today are less than two weeks old, for those who know FW you know this is just short of a miracle, and for a program that is based on super fresh consumption I give them huge props for getting this on shelves quickly. Now for the beer, it is available in 12oz cans and bottles, I was only able to get bottles. The beer pours a golden yellow with a nice bright white cap. The nose shows floral and fruit fragrances. The flavor profile is a big departure for a FW hoppy ale. This is definitely more in the east coast tropical juicy vein than the more traditional pine/citrus profile of most west coast IPAs. There is ripe pineapple, mango, orange and a sweet cherry note. The body is very soft and at 5.9% this is a fantastic warm weather quaffer perfect for BBQs or the golf course or beach. The beer finishes bone dry leaving a nice bitter fruit profile on the back of the tongue. I like the experimental aspect of this batch, it works on every level.
