Lulu set a high bar on what I was expecting. For me, the biggest issue I have is the thick mouthfeel clashing with the delicate palate.
There seems to be an uptick in positive comments for the wine as the outside temp warms up. I am wondering if releasing it as the weather was cooling had an impact on perception. Iāll dig out another bottle once we have a reasonably warm day on the coast.
Itās been a few months since Iāve had ode to Denise but I remember it being pretty drinkable, refreshing and overall pretty tasty. Definitely didnāt have a thick mouthfeel.
Sounds like it has evolved. I noticed on the last bottle I opened that it was starting to thin out some. That was when I made the decision to bury them and give the remaining 3 bottles time.
āThick mouthfeelā is spot on from my perspective. Last had one at Easter and still was the same. Iāve said it before, itās not bad, just different. To me, itās a fall wine.
Didnāt occur to me, Iām sure it would be in my tasting notes if it did. Maybe it had to do with food pairing as well. I had my last bottle with harissa roasted chicken thighs (very rich broth with lots of fat and collagen).
2014 Bedrock Heritage over the weekend. With the caveat I never drank this wine when it was younger, I think for my taste this bottle was slightly over the hill. The nose was genuinely gorgeous, I imagine this is the āBedrock perfumeā much discussed on this threadā¦ but the palate was a bit flat, with insufficient acidity and mellow fruit. Could be an awkward adolescence and the wine improves when it has a chance for tertiary development, but right now this did not do a ton for me. Felt like a this stage the bottle age had sort of flattened the wine. Canāt win them all!
I did not decant and just followed it in the glass over around two hours. It was plenty open for me. I have had a lot of 2016 and 2017 zin/blends in the last few months and this was in the middle in terms of perceived maturity.
Iām always a sucker for this wine. Easily the most high-toned red in the Bedrock stable. So lip-smackingly fresh. Big range of red fruits on the nose, with hints of citrus, florals and baking spice. Love the acidic lift as these candied bright fruits dance across the palate. About to eat some pizza, this will be perfect with it.
I should have mentioned, my wife really loved it last night. She does not drink much red wine at all, but definitely loves it with pizza. And her to favorites are by far Bedrock and Ridge Geyserville.
I came across a couple of these in our Bedrock stash yesterday and are planning on having pizza tonight. Iāll go stand one up now. Thanks for the inspiration.
Nice man! Evangelho is admittedly not my favorite in the Bedrock lineup but the 15 is the best that ive had. That citrus not really stood out to me as well and added intrigue.
Great note bud! And bonus points that your wife digs it as well!
āā¦The O&F Mataro was a whole different wine than the preceding ones. Bright red fruit with crazy acidityā¦I didnāt realize the āOde to Lucienā was 75% Mataro from the same vineyard as the O&F, happy to find that out..ā

Bedrockās 2013, 2015, and 2018 āOde to Lucienā Mataro (MourvĆØdre) component came from Blocks 6 and 7 of the āEvangelho Vineyardā.
Mataro grapes were harvested from the āBedrock Vineyardā to produce the āOde to Lucienā blend in 2019.
